Hi,

Does anyone have any close up pictures of a Sachs 763 clutch pressure plate please?

I would ideally like to know where the fulcrum is for the springs, I have someone trying to sell me one but I'm suspicious because it's in a Mercedes box. I'm not sure if that's because it is actually a Mercedes clutch or if it's a Sachs 763 in the wrong box.

I'll try and get some pictures if I can and maybe someone can help to identify if it's the right 763 plate.

It will have a number on it that ends with 763 so it's easy to verify.

I believe that there are companies that modify the standard plates with standard Merc part numbers to have the same clamping force as a 763 by moving the fulcrum.

I can check the part code but if it's a standard plate that has been modified presumably it will work. I just need to determine wht the modification involves so I can check.

If it isn't a modified plate I don't want to get stung with it.

Pictures would be really helpful if anyone has any please?

Ok it looks like it's a Merc clutch but does anyone know how much torque it can handle?

When I do a search for M228 it comes up with a SACHS 763 but the numbers on the clutch definitely don't seem to have 763 in them.

It has:

SACHS stamped
M228 stamped
04 3082 156 001 printed

M228 indicates the diameter of the clutch, which is shared by many, many sachs pressure plates. 228mm/9 inch clutches aren't all that wonderful. Probably the best 228 is the Sachs 618, but it will require custom machining of the flywheel. Googling the printed# you listed comes up with an alternate Sachs# 3082 156 031. Probably nothing special about it.
