hey I just bought an '86 300SDL and the previous owner said I need to replace the water pump bacause its starting to make noise. Where can I buy a new pump or a reasonable price. I have seen them on Dieselgiant.com and Peachparts.com at a rediculous price! Where can I find a new pump for somewhere in the 40-70 dollar range? $100 for a pump is obsured!

Never take the sellers word for anything until you've verified it yourself.

"Make noise" could be any of a dozen things on the front of the engine. Tensioner pulley, worn belt, fan clutch, A/C compressor, loose crank pulley or oil leaking onto a pulley, etc.

No, they leak.

The point being, make sure it actually is the waterpump before spending money on one. Take off the belt and spin everything by hand to see where the noise if coming from.
