Hello fellow members ,

After a few years of owning my 79 300d I have decided to turbo it ........We named the old girl the "Coal grenade" as to how long it will survive who know's

I began fabricating my own manifold which proved to be tricky due to clearance problems with the automatic gearbox rods ,brackets and the N/a manifold.
In Australia we don't have factory turbo om617 and all the crap cluttering the righthand side of the car caused a great headache, I  moved the turbo further forward than a factory manifold would have the turbo to allow more room for the new exhaust.

A blown head gasket set the mood for this project,
So I In the last 3 weeks I have ported the head where needed , changed springs and cam to a later model which had 80 thou more lift and some other little modification here and there and replaced the headgasket.
The engine has the stock "mw" pump fitted but later models have "m" pumps which I have as a spare if needed

please feel free to chime in on any advice as I play around with this project and I know this style of project probably has been posted to death but not by me Tongue

Cheers Anthony

When you are ready for more fuel the MW has lots of adjustability available. No need for the M unless you want bigger elements.

Several of us have learned how to make the MW pump preform so do not hesitate to ask for help. There will of course be those who will say that only the M pump will do, so don't be surprised by that. Knowledge is power!!

Went for my first drive today ,what a improvement, doesn't struggle up hills and is happy cruising around, temp stayed on 80degc ,with the stock pump setting and manual shifting it made 16psi of boost with a slow climb of egt @480 deg C in 2nd gear, it will be interesting to see what it does when I'm able to turn the fuel up

The pump timing was way off, im guessing it was around mid 35+ deg Btdc , I have now set it around 26-27 btdc and seem's to be running better, and starting easier.
Still smokey on idle im guessing injectors next and im yet to touch the pump !

Do you use an engine oil cooler? I turbo'd a 603 once and the oil pressure just dropped to 0 after 10km of highway driving. The oil is passing the hot turbo and you'll need some kind of cooling.

Wish I had a track around here to even do a proper 1/4 mile..
