i had a local shop replace my control arms and idler arm and do alignment, so i asked them to put the wagon swaybar in place at the same time. handed over the black polyurethane bushings (with zerk fittings on the brackets). when i came back, to my dismay, they had swapped the bar out but reused the old bushings. dude explained that since the shape of the poly pieces was different in cross section, they would have left the bar in a different position, messing up the steering geometry. i thought a little piece of steel behind them could have made up the difference but i guess it was my fault for not bringing that in. what do you all think, is it possible to use different bushings?

can you get us pictures of the normal bushings vs the ones you wanted in place?
i dont think a little different (angle?) on the swaybar would alter stearing geometry, and if your car is lowered, you have alread changed that. (and unless the different bushings change the "angle" even more to the same way i dont see why it is a problem at al.

how big difference is the swaybar from a wagon compared to stock, should one stock up on those?

as i recall, the wagon swaybar is 25mm instead of 24mm, which given that stiffness is related to the 4th power of the radius, makes it 18% stiffer.

the main problem is the different shape and size of the bushings. anyone got a spare pair of the swaybar retainers so that i can try welding the the pieces inside them?
