I've had this 1980 300D NA since 2006 and have put many many miles on it. How many miles? No clue, the odometer was built in Germany. Earlier this year, it got totaled so I had my dad do the repairs and some modifications we had discussed for a couple of years. I'll let pictures tell their stories.

Here is a very old picture of it from about 2007.

Here it is in 2009.

Has the rare aluminum option rims.

Played around with the idea of going without hubcaps and just clear powdercoating them.

Found a tatra just chillin out in town. Took size comparison pics.

Decent pics, I think.

Earlier this year, a Dodge pickup slammed into the Honda Pilot behind me, slamming into me, the brick wall.

The Pilot got a little messed up. Shit'll buff out.

And the culprit.

The driver took the full responsibility and his insurance paid out $3550 for my car, after buyback. With that money, I bought a 1994 BMW 530it with 69K miles.

Dad got to work, fixing Vin.

He decided to fix the floor rust even though, since I've owned and driven it for seven years, I don't believe existed. Those were speed holes. He also ripped out the rest of the automation stuff.

Here it is, painted. The roof is Polar White.

Ignore the fact that it doesn't have trim yet. The clips are on their way. He did a sunroof delete because I asked him to. He does great work but never finishes things well. Oh well.

It's definitely shinier than it was for the last couple of years. The cheap paint job had dulled out quite a bit. Yay, no clear coat...not.

The front seats have been replaced with newer seats from a W124. These are pleated W124 seats, not the weird square paneled ones. Interior isn't done yet, obviously. It's getting close, for sure. One other thing it needs is a good alignment. Too bad I can't seem to find a decent shop around here.

Looks great!

Any old timer engine shops in the area? They will know where to get a good alignment.

I dig the white top

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Thanks, my dad did a decent job! Don't get too close, though! lol

I'm sure there are some, but Houston is kind of ridiculous about stuff like that. When the car is completely done, i'll worry about the alignment.\

I've always liked white tops of euro cars. Also, white tops reduce the heat transmitted into the cab. He painted the 'swords' at the C pillars black, which actually looks really nice.

Why isn't yours done yet? jeez. lol. You can get certain replacement panels from that one company that makes them. My dad just beat the crap out of the rear panels after drilling out the spot welds and separating the panels. Again, don't look too closely at it.

He's really generous with his time, ironically. He just does small jobs and stuff for friends or friends of friends. He doesn't charge people, most of the time. You have to force money on him. Strange family I have. lol

Well, Vin is family. I've been driving this car non-stop for years. It's a total love/hate relationship. Extremely reliable until you do something nice for it, then suddenly, it strands you 50 miles outside of the nearest city at 3am. It's a non-turbo, so it doesn't win many races. Doesn't stop me from driving it to it's limits.

It's almost done and I keep going back and forth with the idea of selling the BMW. I've put a lot of money in the BMW, updating the suspension with all new control arms(and poly bushings), steering tie rods and drag link, shocks and bump stops. I wanted good shocks, so I got Koni adjustables. Still rides like a damn BMW. It's a friggin wagon. It shouldn't ride like a sports car. Not only do you feel every bump and crack in the road, but you also hear every imperfection. It also has more body roll than Vin. It might be faster but it's less enjoyable. Not sure if I wanna keep it and do cool stuff to it or get rid of it for as much as possible.
