Traded our '92 Jetta for a '73 Beetle, sort of apart right now but there's extra parts inside, and the guy still has a bunch of parts for it as well that he couldn't get to. Shall, he has an aftermarket VW parts company and says he'll let me have any stiff I need about at cost. Another car added to the queue..

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )

So what's the plan?
I had dreamt of a beetle body on a 4x4 jeep chassis with a front engine turbodiesel.
It'd be so much work but I'd drive that until the day I die (most likely behind the wheel of said vehicle).

'05 Jeep Liberty CRD - 160k
'06.5 VW Jetta TDI - 230k
'82 MB 300TD - 116k (motor going to raysorenson)
'81 MB 300TD - 195k (parting out)
'71 Jeep DJ5 - diesel conversion project

Not sure what direction it's gonna go, still up in the air. And I wanted it more than I wanted a '92 Jetta sitting in our yard, and also because German cars are the best and apparently I'm a masochist because this makes 5 project vehicles lol

(05-27-2014, 07:32 AM)MFSuper90 Just out of curiosity, why in the world do you want a beetle?

because nothing in the world is easier to fix and tinker with than an old air cooled vw. of course nothing needs as much minor tinkering as an old air cooled on a regular basis.

i remember with my ghia i fixed that sob 20 or 30 times on the side of the road with electrical tape and sandpaper and other crap. it is an old design definitely

Still need to get the stupid truck running, had to other a new carb (Holley 2300) because mine was junk and I didn't feel like rebuilding it, so basically everything above the block is gonna be new or rebuilt. Also discovered the whole throttle pedal and linkage was garbage too so I need to fix that, along with the steering column, before it can even be driven anywhere under its own power
