My friend is helping me rebuild some OM617.95 injectors once we build/acquire a pop tester, but he's pointing me at some nozzles that are a different part number. It appears they were intended for the OM314 engine and are spec'd at 200bar. Less than $10 sounds too good to be true, and I'd rather not waste money on the wrong nozzles. I know the stock nozzles are SD240 but have been told that SD265 and SD314 are also compatible. The part numbers in question:
0 433 271 046 / DLLA 150 S 187
0 434 250 037 / DN 0 SD 165

1985 190D, 176k miles
1983 300D, 208k miles

I want to see a $10.00 nozzle (new) other than Chinese made, but those are bulk buys where the nozzles cost less than a dollar.

Greazzer will surely correct me if I am wrong, but I think the Monarchs are the better of the nozzles. Remember, the quality of your nozzle is directly related to the quality of your spray pattern, hence your MPGs & power....

There are limited choices. You have German Made, which are Monark-DES. Then, you have your Italians, e.g., Bosio. Then, you have a smattering of Chinese, Indian, et cet. Bosios are a fine nozzle too, but I am guessing Monarks are the crowd pleazers.

There are limited choices. You have German Made, which are Monark-DES. Then, you have your Italians, e.g., Bosio. Then, you have a smattering of Chinese, Indian, et cet. Bosios are a fine nozzle too, but I am guessing Monarks are the crowd pleazers.

And frankly, for 10$ each sales price they are crap.

What's your goal? 250HP or low fuel consumption for daily driving?

I understand that engine was developed in the mid 1960s! They had direct injection back then? I was hoping to gain more understanding about the differences and interchangeability between nozzles. I value fuel economy above power (my daily driver is a 190D 2.2L after all), but it sounds like these particular nozzles are not only wrong for my injectors but wouldn't yield very desirable results anyway. Will probably go with Bosio since I've heard such stellar reviews, and don't mind paying $30 per nozzle.

I believe you misunderstood. You have nozzles and you have the nozzle holders. The nozzle holder (injector) is particular to an engine. The nozzles which go into the injector can be interchanged. For example, the OM617.9XX can take a wide range of nozzles, e.g., 240/, 261, 265, 315, et cet. There are a bunch others. However, you cannot take an injector from a OM606 engine (it's about 1 " longer, narrower, et cet) and install that into an OM617 engine. Off the top of my head, you could install a #315 nozzle in a OM606 nozzle holder (injector) AND that same nozzle into a OM617 injector but not interchange the injectors. The different nozzles offer different fuel flow and different spray patterns. Some nozzles decrease fuel and some others increase it. I know that sounds like a bunch of mumbo jumbo, but hope it helps.

I believe you misunderstood. You have nozzles and you have the nozzle holders. The nozzle holder (injector) is particular to an engine. The nozzles which go into the injector can be interchanged. For example, the OM617.9XX can take a wide range of nozzles, e.g., 240/, 261, 265, 315, et cet. There are a bunch others. However, you cannot take an injector from a OM606 engine (it's about 1 " longer, narrower, et cet) and install that into an OM617 engine. No misunderstanding, I know the difference between injectors and nozzles. Haven't pulled them apart and inspected the guts yet, but I've seen plenty of diagrams. My big question was how interchangeable the nozzles are. Which nozzles fit which injectors and what difference do they make regarding performance, fuel economy, idle, etc? Maybe it's not even worth asking...straying too far from stock probably has consequences/complications that I would rather not deal with (like messing with the IP).
I'm told that Monark nozzles are identical to the original Bosch, before quality became questionable, and that Bosio nozzles have a more efficient spray pattern. The market for each (and Bosch) appears to be fairly level. I'd rather not "save" money buying the wrong nozzles.

Well, I can say that different nozzles used in the OM617, for example, will have different flow outputs. The #315 will flow more fuel than the original OEM 240/ or the current #261s. I am guessing that the #315s will probably be the highest output out there for something COTS. Having tested nozzles for OM616 (forum member), those nozzles for example flowed more than OEM. Because of my inability to capture all the spray and measure it in a scientific method, I could not be absolutely precise, but I recall off the top of my head 10-15% more fuel. Does that 10-15% more fuel = 10-15% more HP? I don't know.

As for $10.00 new nozzles, I would like to try them out since that is a really low price. I would question their origins since Chinese made nozzles can be bought for under $1.00 a piece, but I would question their longevity.
