I have just finished painting my sec in red. Paint came out ok apart from the runs in the paint that need sorting. Not to everyone's taste but it's different. The jury is out on the painted chrome.

The engine is a 97 om606 fitted with a ppdiesel built pump with 8.5mm elements. Holset hy35 turbo.
I turned it right down as it was throwing out too much black smoke, when cruising. Still needs some adjusting.
The 722.3 held up for the first few miles but is now slipping when changing gears. I believe there is an adjust on the box that can increase the pressure during change.

There aren't too many secs that have been converted.

So anyway I was thinking of a 6 speed manual swap. Any thoughts?

tried to attach a pic but wont work

I'm about to attach a 6 speed manual to an OM606. I'm using standard electronic injector pump though, so the gearbox endurance isn't such a big factor for me. I should really start a thread here. I'll get around to it at some point.

Are you going to use the flywheel from the donor car? I was thinking of swapping the whole lot over from a 6 speed e200 kompressor.

Any ideas on how to upload pictures. I tried the attachment option but no pictures appear on my post?

Thanks. I'm in Dublin.

I adjusted the vacuum modulator on the side of the box, I turned it in as far as it would go. Topped up the atf and now there is no slipping between shifts.
I turned the IP external adjustment on boost up about half the travel of adjustment to see if the box could handle it.
Took it out on the road, was boosting at 25 psi at 60mph with some serious acceleration when suddenly a hard pipe blew off the intercooler silcone elbow. It was some bang then the cabin started filling with smoke, the hard pipe shot up and severed a live wire which shorted on the chassis and went on fire. Luckily I got it out before and damage.
Video soon.

No, I wanted to avoid the dual mass flywheel. Didn't want to risk it with the greatly increased torque. I've bought a solid flywheel conversion kit for a Sprinter van. Not fitted yet but everything looks and measures perfect except the ribs for the RPM sensor. Doesn't matter if you have mechanical pump, but my pump is still electronic, so I have some slight modification to do, but nothing disastrous.

What is the turbo lag like on that big holset you are running? I am only running a hy35 but still takes a bit to boost. Once it gets to 5psi it shoots up but I imagine a bigger turbo would be slower especially with the autobox

I got full boost at about 3-3500 rpm, but you can get a better turbo then the old hx, a newer ball bearing from garrett or something, spools nice, I know :p

I noticed that my car was faster with the auto box... Why?... The stall speed of the torque converter is about the same rpm as when the turbo begins to spool (±2500 rpm) allowing for a rocket takeoff. The manual tranny need a closed clutch then boost starts (unless you don't care about changing a crispy clutch now and then). Of course the manual is more fun to drive but you'll need to keep it up in the rev's. The auto box had a more luxurious power feeling.

you could just buy a preped one from the states acording to your specs. or buy one from a junkyard from an old chevy van and prep it your self. it is a ton of prepkits out there and they are not that expensive. with a ratchet shifter it beats all manuals!!
at least 400 hp in stock gearbox. in the 1960 they put th400 behind 1000hp dragsters so depending how much money you spend it can be unbreakable for a merc diesel.
