I'm looking for the Diesel injection pump timing gear locking basket for the OM60# series engines.
Part: 601-589-05-14-00

Or some substitute for this tool.

There's drawings to make your own here. http://www.superturbodiesel.com/std/Thre...pump-tools

Whether it's absolutely necessary or not seems open to debate. However....Huh

Shouldn't whatever method of locking the timing gear on an 0m617 work anyway? Or for that matter shouldn't it be similar to locking a cam sprocket when you remove a head?

In case you don't know, early engines came with these installed. I picked one up in a junkyard a while back very cheap. I could probably get the job done without this tool especially if I had a helper and maybe a wire coat hanger.
