Question has been asked by supplier of ball-hone.
They are recommending 180 grit which seems kind of coarse, but say that grit choice is different from regular honing stones and composition of rings is the only thing that might influence choice.

Does anyone know composition of stock OM606 rings? CMoly or cast?

02-12-2014, 10:40 PM #2I'll look up the recommended Ra finish on WIS. That would be the best way to determine the grit of the hone.
2 ring taper-faced ring internal bevel (top) molybdenum coated 2 mm
3 ring coil spring loaded bevelled edge oil control ring chrome plated 3 mm
this is from a Mahle piston catalog that is also OE pistons together with KS.
remember MB dont make pistons
1 ring rectangular ring internal bevel (top) molybdenum coated 2.5 mm
2 ring taper-faced ring internal bevel (top) molybdenum coated 2 mm
3 ring coil spring loaded bevelled edge oil control ring chrome plated 3 mm
