Braided SS covered extruded teflon hose is probably the best you can get. How much better it is than good modern rubber hose is up for debate. By '87 I think rubber brake hoses were good enough to be competitive with SS braid/teflon. If you've got original hoses from the '60's, replace or upgrade. The vast majority of brake system compliance comes from caliper flex. If you've got more hose swell than caliper flex, your case is exceptional.

I like braided SS because I'm into pretty plumbing and Speedflex allows me to roll my own if I've made a change that requires custom lines. Teh claims of making your brakes better are dubious though.
