I saw a w123 at the yard today up in Greely CO the oil pressure line for the gauge was broken off at the oil filter housing it sprayed every thing under the hood with oil and then died ouch!Exclamation

wonder how fast it could pump 7-8 quarts out of that small line???? the definition of a bad day! glad it wasn't meSmile

I had a turbo pressure line crack 80% of the way around and it drained (sprayed) about 1 quart every 10 miles. I cannot imagine the pressure sensor line would do much worse than that, and you <should> notice the smell in time to shut it down.

No smoke, because its on the opposite side from the turbo and downpipe. Even when my turbo was blowing oil all over the passenger side of the engine compartment there was very little smoke, because things just don't get that hot under normal operation. However, hot diesel oil has a very distinct smell to it, and even small amounts where they shouldn't be have a really noticeable smell. And yes, the gauge would have gone to zero. Good idea to scan all the gauges every minute or so.

Every 30 seconds is what they tried to teach back in my driver's ed class, mirrors every 10 seconds.

well it had sprayed upwards all over the bottom of the hood and soaked everything valve cover head exhaust an all!!!! alot of oil!!!!

Makes me think about rigging up a "wife" light. Hmm maybe use the brake pad wear indicator light or are there any blank spots on the cluster? I can't think of where to tap in for a switch. but there's probably an easy way.

there are a couple, when you pull your cluster next time you can see a few 'spares', before you pull the cluster, make a note of which positions light up and then when you pull it and flip it over, you can choose where you want to install your new light.
Then, you could find another car's oil light 'window' (tinted red film with oil or some such printed on it) at a part yard and modify it to fit in the hole. Rig up your light and wire it to the sending unit and you're in business...

As for a place to tap into, follow the oil line for the gage back to the where it taps into the oiling system and put a tee fitting on it. that fitting may be hard to source, 'cause I assume it's metric pipe thread, but a good hardware store should at least be able to order it for you. I think I've even seen (and perhaps even bought) stuff like that at 'The Depot' and Lowe's...
