i can see why exhaust manifold is the single best place for the sensor, but in the test pipe would work pretty well too, right? i ask because it's a chunk simpler to drop. thanks.

Not really, a lot of heat is used when the exhaust expands in the turbine of the turbo. If its a no turbo car then probably the down pipe would be OKish..

Exactly. That is the whole principal here. Recouping the energy lost as heat into a useful kinetic energy of forcing induction. Directly in the exhaust has got to be the place to measure, not somewhere else down the line.

I think you're misinterpreting-he's talking about putting the pyrometer pre-turbo, but in the california emissions cat-delete pipe instead of the cast manifold.

I think you're good putting it there, I doubt the EGTs would drop what 50°F in the test pipe?

There is a brace that goes from that bracket to the motor mount. That brace is important for supporting the turbo.

Ah i see now.. I did misread what you were talking about. I think that the up-pipe/test pipe would be a fine place for the probe. I would think you want it in or nearest the turbine inlet do to the pressure being the greatest at the inlet, that would most likely give you the most accurate reading.
