hi, i have a mercedes G for off road, original its a 240gd with om616, now it has a good om617A engine. I also have an OM605 engine laying around and i have a 6mm mechanical 5cil diesel pump (element from electronic om605 pump). And i can also get an 2.9 om602 engine cheap. now i can't decide, i was thinking about putting the 6mm pump on the 617, ad a bigger turbo or vnt and intercooler. But i was also thinking about putting an VE pump on the om605 since i know a guy that works at a diesel shop and does tractor pulling, he knows a lot about pumps and has experience with the 2.9 om602 engine. What do you guys think?

i am gona go for my current om617A engine, if this on breaks i will put an om605 in that i already have. I am gona try to fit a 6mm om602 turbopump (elements from the electronic 605 pump) and see how much fuel i get, if this is not enough i will sent it to dieselmeken. I have a custom vnt turbo made at a turbo shop, it will be ready in 2 weeks. Currently i am fitting my intercooler, it's a tight fit. I also got a pipe welded to the manifold.

That is a lot of intercooler! At least 3x the size of the factory intercooler that the factory built into the 463.331 model.

Pay attention to control of the vnt, it's not as straight forward as wastegated turbos. EGP gauge is a must.

I had Om617 TD in my offroad G... After it somehow lost oil, old turbo or winter driving in woods without protection it broke... Smile Now I have OM605, lighter for offroading than 606, very happy, but I have slow ratio axles from G280 for better torque.
Got my mechanical pump and thinking to get it to mayna maybe in winter... Thinking about VNT turbo too... Smile
