I thought I had seen it done on here but I may have been thinking of force inductions air water right next to the intake manifold. I basically dont want to run a front mount in my truck. Things are already going to be tight with the om617 so Im considering incorporating the intercooler with the intake.

Using an intercooler like this.

The idea would be to trim the air bank off one side and weld it to a split open intake manifold. A couple smaller electric fans mounted on top and possibly louvers over it in the hood and wahlah compact intercooler.

And before you say it I have no interested in adding the necessary components for air to water.

1986 Olds 442 - Blue/Silver : 383 SBC, AFR 210 Eliminators, Roller Cam, Blueprinted and balance (for real Smile

To come: Gen 1 Isuzu trooper, OM617, sm465, np241, locked toy axles, 33x10.5 KM2s

I bought a A/W intercooler integrated into the stock manifold off Kmaser.
An air to air would not be very effiecent even with fans, IMO.
I am going to run my water through the stock condenser, using a ford mustang intercooler pump. Not too much work involved in a A/W. Just some type of cooling system, small radiator, condenser etc..

'82 300D -3" straight pipe, ALDA deleted, 3in1 glowshift gauge, HX30, egr-less manifold, A/W intercooler Big Grin
'14 Ram 6.7l cummins -G56 handshaker, wishing it was deleted

well its possible but to make it work you have to have a hood scoop like all other cars with a top mount intercooler (as example subarus). I dont think louvers will work you create wacuum from the fast air over the hood and end up heating the intercooler with the hot air from engine and radiator
so if you look at the work its almost the same as for a water cooled model and if you later want to remove it you need a new hood.

but maybe i am wrong

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

Another issue is that heat conducts quickly through aluminum. Even with adequate airflow, the engine will add thermal load to the IC and will cause nasty heatsoak for hot starts.
