Aside from that weird self-lubrication thing, they do fill a void in the medium size VNT market, so long as you don't want to boost past 1.5bar.

CFM/13=pounds/min

Corky Bell (Maximum Boost) really endorsed these turbos but they had some reliability issues for anything in the automotive sector (i had read) and were mostly used on motorcycles, snowmobiles, ect. For a while the company was all but gone and now they seem to be back. The cost is fairly high at almost 2600 for the turbo. They are fairly amazing turbos though...

I understand ownership has changed and after a cursory search it seems that reliability has improved.

I spoke to some company in the US - Rotrex i think it. Dunno if thats the same kind of thing.
They said they (rotrex chargers) are not suitable as they cannot supply the boost levels required for STD.

W124 om606 HX40 finished and it's a beauty 450bhp/456ft-lbs

Rotrex is a belt driven supercharger with turbo like compressor design, so it is not driven by exhaust gases like a turbocharger ;-)

Mercedes Benz W210 E-Class 320CDI, lowered 2.5", 18" AMG wheels, Decat, EGR removed, Tumble flaps removed, C30 AMG injectors, 400kpa MAP, Custom GT2566XTV turbo, SW tweaked to 300+hp/750NmBig Grin
