Hi all, new to the world of diesel Mercedes, I have a couple of tdi vw's and a 10v turbo and 20v turbo 5cyl audi so the 5cyl really appeals to me. I have a few questions regarding the om605. I have a 190d with the om602 na, 5speed and would like to upgrade to an om605 turbo. First question is what ip to use? Also is it possible to have around 180hp and retain good economy as it will be a daily driven car. How hard would it be to use the electric pump and ecu? Are the dbw or dbc?

The 605 turbo engine is already 150hp I doubt it affect fuel economy much getting an extra 30hp, with the standard pump which is an electronically governed mechanical pump you can get the extra 30hp through chipping but a lot of hassle making it work in a 201, easiest to get the pump from a turbo 602 & swap the larger elements from the 605's pump into it.

Beauty of a diesel with a mechanical pump is that is possible to have massive hp when you want it but when you're not using that power you're not using the extra fuel.

ok this is going to sound dumb but what are the elements? is there a a guide to replacing them? Also where is the best place to source a 602 turbo ip from? I am in New Zealand so anything diesel is hard to get here

ok this is going to sound dumb but what are the elements? is there a a guide to replacing them? Also where is the best place to source a 602 turbo ip from? I am in New Zealand so anything diesel is hard to get here

Crap, wish I knew the there were turbo 605s in NZ, would have been easier, although looks like it might cost more plus It's very hard trying to get stuff through Trade Me if you aren't from NZ, & there seems to be no New Zealanders on ebay.

If you get the transmission that comes with the 605 it should be good for the extra 30hp.

If your 190d is an auto that transmission probably won't hold what is effectively double the power the car came with.

Not sure, I don't know much about Merc manual transmissions, nearly all w123, w124, w201, w202, probably every other chassis too, in Aus were autos, only rarely see manual gear boxes in them here.
