Hello,

I am wondering if anyone out there has ever sent their IP pump for a rebuild in the U.S.A ? If so, can you please tell me the name of the shop, contact info, et cet. Were you happy with the results ?

I have an unusual IP Pump. It's a MW pump from a wagon, 300D NA (no turbo). It does not have an ALDA, but it has something similar looking. I am thinking of swapping out my M Pump with this pump.

Thanks,

They do good work. I've sent over a few pumps over the years. They have also done a few Mercedes gas inline pumps for me. They don't get involved in hi performance however.

Good luck!

That part on top of the pump is an ADA on a non turbo car. It works like an ALDA but only for altitude and it can be replaced with an ALDA. Forced induction ran one of these pump on his turbo car

Thanks Gents ! I am thinking I will make a list and start the dialing for builders while I am out on medical leave.

Any other entries, please add to the thread. I got my diesel timing device, so I am thinking early June would be a good time to swap out the pump to see what happens.

You are probably speaking of John Kaddy. He now works for Diesel Injection Systems in Santa Maria, Ca. 805.929.1599.

They/ he built my hybrid mechancial VE pump to replace the electronic unit on my OM602 DE29LA. I have nothing but HUGE RESPECT for them!

John Kady is the fellow who setup those tomnik Holly element MW pumps. As Suave stated, he no longer works for BECs in Fresno. Good guy to work with though. In fact Kris Wolfenstein still sends off the Mercedes performance stuff to him.

Speaking of BECS Pacific, Kris sold his Bakersfield shop to them a few years ago. He now works for them. Kris would be a good place for stock rebuilds and offers good prices. He charged those tomnik build just over $500.00.

I do think John Kady can do something with the ChinaHanji 1 418 415 051 10mm elements for the MW pumps. Target 90cc and he should be able to set it up nicely.
Just tell him you are part of the Mercedes group he set up the MW pumps eith the 6.5mm p's and b's for some members.

So Kris would be the guy to contact as John is no longer working at a pump shop? There are several numbers listed - which would be the correct one to contact the correct person?

If you are doing a stock rebuild or maybe a little tweak for performance, Kris Wolfenstein in Bakersfield is the fella to contact. (661) 397-9400

If your doing a full performance upgrade/rebuild then John Kady is the fella to contact. (805) 929-1599. But Kris is also a good contact for a performance build as he'll collaborate with John or other guys to get it done even though they are at different companies. Seems like Kris is well connected with all the injection shops in California.

I just got off the phone with Kris - great guy. He said that the pumps he built for the guys on this forum flowed about 30% over stock. I was really hoping for more than that. He said that he didn't now where the plungers and barrels were sourced, but they looked like good quality, and he didn't have any problem setting them up. So, which exact elements were these? He also said that he recommended using a little bigger injector with this setup. Anyone know what specific injectors he could be referencing?

Nope, but I bet he does. Let him know that if he can hit the target for like $1,000 out the door he will have a line of guys from STD.

From what Kris said, the price of the pump build, calibration, and elements was closer to $650. It really doesn't make a difference if we don't know where to get the elements or injectors.

Do I understand you correctly that the $650 includes the elements??? If so Bosch or China? I can't see Bosch for that price. How about Delivery Valves?

If that price includes all the parts that is an unbelievably low price for a custom pump....

I am pretty sure the elements that were used were from a small batch of custom made German MW elements. They were 6.5 mm.

I would ask him if the China elements he is thinking of are 10mm or 8mm. The 8mm ones are never in stock anywhere.

That is an amazing price for sure...

I think the price is probably based on the time he puts into it without a premium added. So it's not that amazing. But it seems so because there are so few options.

I would not touch it for $650.... lol

Something to keep in mind is that the 6.5mm elements that were installed did not require any special changes with the governor for them to work, that was a key point in their design. However, with 10mm elements, all that is out the window.... If the guy is good, it will take a bit of tweaking to get the governor to work right, and that takes time.

He is correct in his recommendation of larger nozzles to go with the larger elements.

So, what are our options for elements that are actually being manufactured, and in stock now? I havent seen any larger nozzles for our injectors - where can they be found?

Kris said that the price was lower to try to help us out, and he would try to fit the pumps in (may take a week or two).

I do not want to hijack this thread rehashing old discussions...

The DN 0 SD 315 nozzle was recommended to me by a friend, it is supposed to flow about 15% more than the 265 nozzle at the same pintle lift. I have a set of Bosio and China 315 nozzles, with 5 China ones assembled but not in the engine yet.... too much going on..

As for elements you or the pump guy will have to do some research... there are a gazillion different 10mm elements available for the MW and P pumps, (you do want to stay with the "thin" flange type though, the "thick" flange type use a different DV holder).

Each element has it's own unique features, I have purchased several different ones in order to find the one that I like "now", which is different from the first ones I used.

Then there is the Delivery valve, the stock ones max out at about 90cc/Krevs (if they are new), but the quality of the injection at that volume and at the rate that the 10mm element will deliver, will be marginal. I was running about 60cc/Krevs with stock DVs, nozzles, and Modified 10mm elements and it would rattle when you snapped the throttle.

Again, finding the right DV for this combination takes some research, I just received some DVs that I ordered to see what they looked like. I am curious to see how they work in the next pump.

This type of knowledge and research is where the pump guy's value comes into play.... If he is just a plug and play guy, there will be a lot of learning that has to be done... If he truly understands how everything works and can pick parts based on that, then it should be easer....

Well the first elements I used, I heavily modified the end of injection helix and sense then I have had some epiphanies that have changed my understanding and approach, and as a result of that, I have selected a different element to try. I ordered about 10 different elements, ($$$), to find the one I like now, and that may change depending on how well it works. I will be dressing the end of injection helix just to be sure the set is matched, and adding an additional fill port, which is not something that a standard shop will do.

I have also ordered a few different Delivery Valves in order to find the one that best matches the nozzle and delivered quantities, (more $$$), and I have selected one that I want to try, but until I hear it run and see the EGTs I will not know if it is a keeper or if I need to keep looking...

I was told about the 315 nozzles by a friend and have some to try, but I for see having custom nozzles made for the larger elements.

I have been acquiring the parts to build a pump calibration machine, complete with a digital interface that will allow me to map out the fueling curve, so far I have spent about $2500 for the main parts and have about another $1500 remaining parts and sensors to be purchased.

I have considered doing some MW pumps for some time now, but my interest only peeks when my regular work is slow, and it has been very busy for a change, so I have not been focused on it. However, I have made a significant investment in both time and money to be at a point where I could compete with the pump shops for MW pump work, and as such, I really am not keen on providing my competition with the secret recipe, (which is still in development).

I do know that Dieselmeken, who is a professional pump builder, has built a 10mm MW pump. You might ask him if he will tell you what parts he used privately… I doubt it, but he seems like a very pleasant chap and has shared a lot of information on M pumps.
