That's either the original plastic seal melted or some goo somebody stuck in there. I've never seen the blue thing, someone may have just stuck it there.

How does this impact tuning? Should I just remove the alda at this point? with that crap shoved in there, is there a way to tell if it's even functioning?

I'm ideologically opposed the ALDA removal, but others like it. You've got to tear that stuff off to make an adjustment. Get some wire cutters, grab a little piece of the metal can around the black stuff and tear it off. Underneath, you'll find the adjustment screw and lock nut.

For general ALDA tuning info, google around. It's a clever device that works well at stock boost levels with stock pumps.

If you do remove it, setup a boost gauge and EGT probe. Without the ALDA you lose overboost protection

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

This is essentially my end game anyways. I'll start looking for a decent multi-gauge soon. Anything around that won't break my little piggy bank that has boost and egt together? I'm forgetting another important gauge worth of information here.

I ran a $60 lab readout panel. Square, digital, and you could program an alarm limit that tripped a relay to do whatever

Sounds a little out of my league, but it sounds intriguing. Any information on this?

I appreciate the link. I was given a cheap autometer boost gauge the other day. Now I get to figure out how/where I want them.

I suppose the round vents would come in hand with this right now, but I'm stuck with my awesomely hideous rectangle ones.. I'll see what I can work with them though.. still waiting on a hand primer to get my car started after doing a purge and filter swap this weekend.

That's a very fancy setup you have there.

In other news my wife managed to break her leg and thus won't be driving my tdi, or anything else for that matter, for a few months. With that, I tore the interior out of the benz today to start the cleaning and refinish process. It should make finding a spot for my gauges a little easier with everything out of the car... still trying to get the passenger kick panel out though.

All the kick panels come out very easily, if it's not you missed a screw somewhere

The passenger side seems to have the ventilation system attached at its rear. I'll have to look again now that there are no seats to get in the way of me laying down inside the car.
