Not sure what I'll do with these, but, within the past week the following have appeared as if by magic in my garage:

1. An OM606.962 with 48,000 original miles on it. But it's just the head, block, vac pump, manifolds, and oil filter, none of the other accoutrements (e.g., no turbo, no IP).

2. An OM606.912 with everything except the AC and PS pumps still hanging on it (including the IP).

3. The .912's automatic transmission, not sure if a 722.600 or not.

4. --and enough cash to play around with these toys, if I'm frugal.

If anyone has a heated (or, heatable with kerosene) shop space in the Puget Sound area (first choice would be Seattle-Eastside-Everett, second choice would be Olympia area) where I can stow a car or two and these toys, and do the fabbing and swapping-in of them, please PM me.

Further messages, as developments warrant. Suggestions are welcome.

Does anyone have an opinion as to whether an OM606.962 engine will fit into a W124 wagon?

It will, you just need to figure out a few details like the oil cooler lines and oil pan clearance. I wonder how well the rest of the accessories swap over (ps pump, ac, etc).

(01-13-2013, 09:30 PM)JustPassinThru Does anyone have an opinion as to whether an OM606.962 engine will fit into a W124 wagon?

It will fit but you have to do the following

swap oil filter housing for a w124 om603 housing (removable center tube)
w124 om603 engine mount arms
fabricate some sort of linkage set up for the throttle cable and transmission bowden cable
Coolant lines, HVAC, and vac lines
turbo intercooler lines and intercooler

I haven't figured out if I am going to stick with the 606's AC compressor or go with what I have on my current 603

There are some other things I may be forgetting but I am currently working on the linkage set up. I'm going to order from the dealership, parts from the om606.910 naturally aspirated engine for my set up since the '95 E300D didn't use drive by wire like the later engines.

oh and don't forget some sort of mechanical injection pump

Zeitgeist over on benzworld is doing the exact swap so check out his thread

I hadn't seen that thread--yumping yodeling Yeezus --! He is somewhere in my neck of the woods, too. Let me see if I can raise him via PM over on BW... (three minutes later) raised him. He lives only about 30 miles from me.

nice, two 606 swaps in the same area.

I have 124 arms for a 603, currently attached to my car! lol
document the crap out of your build like I am since these swaps are common over seas but the documentation is spotty

I have met with Zeitgeist. It is possible that we will work together, to a greater or lesser extent.

Let's start with the wheels. I like 5-spoke AMG wheels. I am wheel-illiterate. What should I go shopping for?

Pity you're not in Windermere, Cumbria. Not as warm as FL but a darn sight prettier and possibly more 717 gearboxes to go round. Big Grin

Document it well please!! I think I too will want to do the same. I yearn for a late W124 wagon, a red one to be exact, with a diesel. Still on the fence if I want a 722.6 or a 5 speed stick.
