While changing my oil today I looked at the transmission swap stuff and its not going to be a direct swap. But there will be some fitting to be done for the mount and hopefully I do not have to change the tail shaft or drive shaft.

So I think first order of business is get the 606 swapped in and then we will do the 722.6

It was out of a C230 Kompressor. Go to the drivetrain section and look at the thread on the 722.6 v2 controller by Olefejer. I posted a list of the cars the 722.6 came in. But try to get one out of a car with a straight 4/6 so the bell housing will mate to the 606. The V8's use a different pattern but you can swap the bell housings.

the Denver U Pull and Pay has a 2002 C230 in their inventory. Orlando has a U Pull and Pay and I paid $117 for the transmission with torque converter and everything else I left bolted on to it. Apparently, Denver charges $99 for a transmission.. Lucky, but mine gets way more inventory in for Mercedes


Side note.. I pulled a glow plug wiring harness plug from a 617 and of course it only has 5 wires, I nabbed it for the plug and the female connectors. So I need one more so I can redo the 606 harness. Does anyone have some extras I can have?

I think if I go with an auto but it will have to be out of a much beefer model than the C230. I thought of getting that C320 tranny. But I would like to get a tranny out of an E55. Of course that 100 price is hard to pass up. A ginny pig tranny. I have to read that thread on Olefejer. We don't get much Benzes at our yard, exept the old 300Es and 190Es. You got so lucky with that motor at your yard. I think you're going to set the record for the most frugal 606 STD....ha ha. I don't know if you saw, but I picked up a sweet '95 E300D last week.

Just checked the inventory of my junk yard and there is now a 400E in the yard. Looks like I will hopefully be getting the front sway bar, gauge cluster and maybe the front calipers.

any other 606 swap stuff or useful things to grab?

What's the 400E gauge cluster needed for? You live by the best junkyard. My yards have 190es hand over fist. I still can't believe you got a 606turbo at that yard.

The 722.6 does not have a mechanical speed output so I have to somehow use the 400E spedometer to display speed.

I am so blessed with this yard dude.. You have no idea how much I love it.

I guess I'll go get the E420 cluster. I got the sway bar too. What about the brakes? Bring a good wrench and mallet--those calibers can be hard to take off especially if the wheel is turned.

I only know that the 400E/E400 sway bar works. As long as its a V8 W124 the sway bar will work (again.. 4/500). Grab the cluster if its cheap. I bought the spedometer since a single gauge is $6 at my yard. I need to go back again and figure out how the spedometer works in the 400E and adapt that to my 300D when I do the 722.6

I am going to swap the 606 in with the 722.4 or whatever is in it now. Which is why I was ordering the 606.910 throttle linkages. No muss, no fuss bowden cable set up and throttle control.

It's usually four triggers -you don't need magnets, the pick-up is energised- but each head is calibrated to it's respective diff ratio so if you've pulled a speedo from a different car it will under/overread dependant on the donor ratio.

When I go with the 722.6 Ole's display can show MPH but its rather small and I would prefer to make my install look like its original.I'll drive with the small display but I would really like a speedometer so I can track fuel consumption.

the thread on peach parts has a guy putting 4 metal blocks on his drive shaft for the pick up in a W107 380SL. but again, I am going to figure out the 400E on Saturday before it gets crushed.

That's a lot of work and its still not a 5 speed. I want the over drive and IIRC the V8 has a different bolt pattern than the OM60x/M10x series that the 722.6 can bolt to. I'm just working on getting the 606 swapped in with my current 4 speed.

I'm doing things rather German... over complicated for simple returns.

As long as its a W124 car it will fit into any other W124 cluster. I just need to get the sensor for it and another person that is doing a 606 swap here in the USA has a Dakota Digital speedometer device that can change the signal to match the rear end ration stuff.

The 400E has a transmission without a mechanical speedo drive. The '87 300D has a mechanical speedo. I am going to have to make a trigger wheel for the driveshaft for the sensor that relays the speed to the speedometer

Speed sensor from the 400E transmission. I traced out the wiring and the sensor leads to a massive plug behind the ash tray and then smaller gauge tan and while wires go to the cluster where in the plug the tan and the second tan wire that matches with the black/purple with red dots are soldered together for the ground. The white and black/purple/red go to their respective pins on the gauge. So, looks like all I have to do is take the black/purple/red and feed it to fuse #5.

I couldn't trace the BPR wire to where ever it went. I did find a relay with a BPR wire but I'm not sure it was the same since it came from a different direction.

Got my 603 fuel filter housing in. Mounts perfectly in place. I just need to get new copper crush washers. Plus a new crush washer for my cars oil filter housing center tube.

Anyways... slight progress.


I do plan on painting all of the bare aluminum brackets and sprucing up the engine.

I found an old Cummins at the yard today with a Holset HC1 but the compressor wheel would not spin and was covered in corrosion. I suspect it sat for a long long time. Plus all of my efforts could not loosen the bolts holding onto the thing. I should have grabbed the VDO Water temp gauge that was bolted onto the dash which I think was a makeshift post turbo pyrometer.

saving up now for my 606 NA linkages

I did pick up this rather massive turbo from my fav junkyard. I couldn't pass it up.

It's some flavor of Garrett that I pulled off of a Detroit Diesel 6 cylinder, I wanted to nab the entire engine but I had no way of getting it home! So, its pretty damn big. It weights more than 50 lbs for sure which means I paid less than $1 a pound for it. I have no idea what to do with it other than try and ebay it or make it into a gas turbine. I doubt a 606 would ever be able to spin this thing without punching a hole in the block.

It's some flavor of Garrett that I pulled off of a Detroit Diesel 6 cylinder, I wanted to nab the entire engine but I had no way of getting it home! So, its pretty damn big. It weights more than 50 lbs for sure which means I paid less than $1 a pound for it. I have no idea what to do with it other than try and ebay it or make it into a gas turbine. I doubt a 606 would ever be able to spin this thing without punching a hole in the block.

With compounded twin turbo's the small turbo will spool up like normal at low rpm and the secondary large turbo takes over in the high rpm and forces more air through the little turbo. for extra pressure/flow up top in the rpm's

You get the advantage of a little turbo off the line and a big turbo in the upper RPM's it's a win win
plus you can set them up with waste gates and set any pressure you want 20 psi from 1200-6500 RPM

Anyone know the copper crush washer sizes for the om603 pump. I need new washers for all of the fuel line fittings.might try NAPA tomorrow for some washers and fuel line so I can start this thing and maybe be convinced to keep it

There are 2 things you can do wrong with a 606 engine. 1: never buying one. 2: selling it before it is finished.
If you finish it and feel the power it can give with a big turbo and a big pump, you will know what I meanSmile So keep up the good work

Napa had some that will work. Just need some oil and a gallon or two of diesel. Then figure out how to warm the plugs and crank it.
