So I dont have to sell the mercedes anymore!

My dad came across a 1997 Jetta TDI 5 speed for 1500. A friend of his is selling it so he is willing to go for that low and will hold onto it until I have the money (only need another 500 bucks)

The only issue is it has mixed up vacuum lines.

Engine was rebuilt + new turbo

its green on tan so not the best color combo but hey, who cares!

You should buy any number of Fords that used a 2.3/2.5 inline 4

Or any number of Jeeps with the 4.0L inline 6

CONGRADULATIONS !

Keep the Benz !

I was going to list my recent purchase ... but I was concerned over the buying public's frenzy and the pandamonium it would cause. I was going to list it at $7,500 and drop the price to $4,000.00 which evidences a great deal. LOL.

Seriously though, what are you looking for in a car? Speed, comfort, reliability, etc? Is a car ruled out for being boring, even if it's reliable?

For the TDI, I understand the motor is decently reliable, and than the chassis will have the usual VW electrical gremlins. From what I've heard, a $400 tune that fixes the EGR and bumps up the fuel output is worth every cent. That and $1500 is hella cheap-the local guys want $1200 for the motor alone.

I have never heard anybody outside of California use the term "hella"

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Common rail/electronic injection diesels don't do too well with burning grease from my experience. We tried it withmy friend's '05 F-250 and it ran like crap, he could barely get it over 55 on grease, and several times the computer just shut the truck off

I hear ya, I miss my diesel. The Ford is awesome-it ALWAYS starts, has enough power, is quiet, good mileage, runs shit over when I ask it to, etc...but it's just not a diesel.

Might as well get that TDI then-just be sure to drive the 240 on a weekly basis.

The part I'm from is mostly country music and hicks with lifted trucks who wouldn't take them half the places I go with the Benz
