Hi all!
I couldn't pass up a getrag 265 that was for sale locally so now I'm a proud owner of a strong 5-speed.
Now, how to mate it to my OM617?
I have a flywheel housing from a 300GD (R1100111545). Will this help me in any way with an adaptation?
I'm looking, specifically, for a bellhousing that'll bolt up. If none exist, then I'm open to other LOW BUDGET solutions.

Also, does anyone know off hand if the 265 used a mechanical or electronic speedo?

'06.5 VW Jetta TDI - 230k
'82 MB 300TD - 116k (motor going to raysorenson)
'81 MB 300TD - 195k (parting out)
'71 Jeep DJ5 - diesel conversion project

We can make an adapter plate, finding the big piece of 3/4" alum is going to be tough though...

larsalan I guess I need to look at this stupid ass drip shit. What you have to like mess with those elements on the pump? What a fucking hassle. then use some wire to hold the throttle open or some shit?

The Getrag 265 would be the transmission of my choice. It's much, much stronger than the 717.400. I'm actually thinking I would go with this transmission instead of my .400.... That is if one ever shows up at my local yards.

So far my plan would be to get a bellhousing from an "Iron box" 4 speed. Make an adapter plate between the 265 body and Iron box bellhousing and machine a bushing to lengthen the input shaft to meet up with the pilot bearing. Then cut down or lengthen BMW shifter assembly to work in a w123. All is left is to fabricate or adapt BMW trans mount and figure out the driveshaft flange. I think this project is totally doable. The only problem is the Getrag 265 supply is getting scarce, but not as scarce as the 717.400.

The 265 does come with a mechanical speedo. There are two version so this trans. The 5 speed overdrive and the dog-leg close ratio non-overdrive unit.

Good luck, I hope you post up your install of this trans.
