new project ,just started building a super 'g' 3428mm wheelbase pickup g wagen.
i have taken a sound 280 swb petrol g wagen with no motor and trans i have taken the body off and cut the chassis in half and added a section to make it 3428mm wheelbase (super g ) i then cut the body in half and shortened it to make a 2+2 cab leaving enough room for an 8 ft flatbed to take a demountable camper giving a multipurpose g pickup with 605a power and a 6 speed manual box same as the one in my lwb g which has a 606a .
the pickup has promise as it seems very light maybe 500kg lighter so the 605 should fly it along .
i have just got a 716.651 manual 6 speeder from clk 220 cdi with flywheel and complete clutch and i already have a musso inj pump that has been maxxed ,i will intercool it with an iveco van unit and a 12psi pressure operated wastegate actuator with egr delete and a degutted inlet plenum, with big bore 61 exhaust pipe with single straight through silencer (same as my 606a g) this g is half its weight so it should fly with 605a power and have the potential to be eco if required.
the cab is a challenge as the plums who had it were gradually cutting it to pieces for body panels for other vehicles so i had to rectify what they had done before i could proceed with my plans ,it is taking along time to do this but it is starting to take shape as a shrunken g wagen .
let the grinding ,welding and metal bashing commence...

That is gonna be awesome!!!!!!

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)

thanks for all your comments! it is very satisfying building this as it will give us alot of pleasure when it has its camper back on and it should be a hoot to drive solo with a feisty 605 a under the hood .
i will put up some pictures of the 6 speed and 605a that i will use.
the welding continues onwards i am waiting for another door to de-skin for the other side ,its making the two sides the same as each other thats going to be the real challenge. i have reused all the good steel from the amputated body to make the repair pieces so its all good for the old recycling! i might get the pump built with 6 mm elements and maxxed to try for 200 with boost etc ,sorry huss but iam not in the 300 club, but i do have an bmw z3m roadster that is and i have done the jump from casino royale in it at millbrook, is that ok?? -mike

(08-27-2012, 02:13 PM)Simpler=Better Great progress, are you having custom glass cut for the rear windows?
yes, the side windows will have mdf templates made and reproduced in a cab glass shop in bristol nearby, they will be installed with the generic cut to length type rubber seal with bead type expander.
the back window is of course half the old factory back door so the glass will go back in giving me rear wash wipe and heated rear screen ,i am just about to fit the rear body mounts into the chassis ,i cannot decide if i should give a minor (15mm) bodylift or not ,my friend tony has done it to his and it just makes brake pipe access and pressure washing lots easier, so might just go 15mm or so, nothing extreme as it is really tall already i know the engine etc has to go in but it will not take it down that much, it towers over my lwb 460 with 606a like a monster truck.

bit more progress on the super g
in no particular order !
glow plug unit fitted and wired to petrol powered wiring loom /glow light on dash typical merc the holes are already there on a gas powered truck nice!
rear spring/shock mounts cut off and replaced with new (the only bad bit on the whole truck)
flywheel has tabs trimmed to give 3 pulses per rev to trigger the 280 ge tacho.
hall sensor shimmed up by 1 mm to get airgap correct as they can rub or jam on the flywheel tabs when swapping a manual f/w from a flex plate worth checking if you do this swap ,this is the 2nd time i have found this.
low miles 605a fitted with f/w and 6 speeder (716.651) from c220cdi
crankshaft boss ground back a little to allow f/w to sit down flat as they do not pull down on to the crank face ,i have checked with a vernier caliper for depth and it does not meet the face by about 1.5 mm ?? strange ,but true.
