looking for a complete drivetrain out of a 300D/300SD/300TD ect. Im looking for a turbo 617 that runs well, and has a good automatic tranny attached.

If you have a rusted out parts car, or an engine/tranny combo sitting around, let me know. Needs to be complete and running though.

The GF is tired of her incredibly slow 240D, but loves the car. Shes ready to consider doubling the power. Big Grin

Shes got a 616 NA 4-speed combo. Guess she is getting tired of a 30 second 0-60. Big Grin

Haven't installed that other engine yet, but its not destined for her car.

EDIT- I have an iron 4-speed transmission in good shape for partial trade as well towards this drivetrain if anyone is interested

Shes had that car longer than ive had any mercedes. Big Grin

I recently (3 months ago) made her car a 4-speed when the auto tranny blew, and shes not happy having a manual. She admits that it might be that now she has a direct interface with all 60 hp of her 2 ton car and suddenly realizes just how dangerously underpowered it is, vs the blissful ignorance of just pressing on the accelerator and it gets there eventually.

However, she'd like to go back to an automatic, and make it more powerful on top of that.

the idea is to find some rusted out 300D and swap everything over so she starts driving her 240 regularly again. We will see.

The other idea is to do a non stock drivetrain swap.

What happened to the small pickup idea?

I have a 190,000 Engine and 123love has a transmission. But my price for the engine plus shipping from Cali would probably be pretty high.

Lol, palletized probably a couple hundred bucks, however, im going to work on this 603 idea with her. I have no familiarity with that engine, but it would be a nice upgrade for her.
Thank you for that copart link, now im doing some endless surfing. Big Grin

This is outside my current morass of projects getting in each others way. She was gung ho about a pickup until we discovered that there are few options that she likes. Right now shes driving a 90s brick and this 240.
Looking at the cash invested, makes more sense to make some basic repairs to her swedish brick, and put play money towards her 240 than to buy a new car, but it depends on the day really. She might decide she needs 3 or 4 cars.

naaa, she was just looking for a new pickup as a lark, I don't think she was prepared for how specific use a small pickup is, and how useless it is for anything but specific use. (though that would be an interesting project)

I doubt she will actually get one, but repowering the 240D is definitely on the list. A stock swap with a 123 chassis 300D would definitely be the easiest, fastest solution, and would still double the power.
It doesn't bother me since I constantly drive an 86 jetta around at 55 mph calculating fuel economy, but she can't stand how powerless the 240 is and ends up driving her 96 something volvo wagon instead.

As for the pickup being specific, NO WAY. My DD is a little 2WD Ranger with 4 squirrels under the hood. I move shit, I occasionally drift (when it's raining), tow farm crap, race guys in riced out coupes, and there's a build-in fold out bench on the back!

As for racing guys in "tricked out" 4cyl coupes, I'm not afraid to hit 5k assuming I'm up to temp, so I always get them on the launch Big Grin

lol, I used to own several small pickups that I loved for the same reason, a nissan HB, a ranger, and a toyota truck. By specific use, I mean what you posted, moving stuff, towing stuff, ect. They are definitely worthwhile vehicles. SO MUCH fun to drive in snow, nothing has less grip than an empty rear wheel drive pickup

My problem with my old pickups was internal space, and if 4 of you want to jump in and run down somewhere, the external seat is only useful in perfect weather and with people who don't mind not being part of the group inside.

I ended up moving to vans because I could switch them back and forth between cargo haulers and passenger haulers as needed, and secure equipment without fear of having a lock box popped with a crow bar.

For her, keeping her volvo wagon makes great sense. She wants to eventually make her 240 a "hot rod". That should be fun long term. In the middle term, making it a better daily driver for her is worth doing. Big Grin

As for the pickup being specific, NO WAY. My DD is a little 2WD Ranger with 4 squirrels under the hood. I move shit, I occasionally drift (when it's raining), tow farm crap, race guys in riced out coupes, and there's a build-in fold out bench on the back!...

I do all that with my w123...except tow farm crap and have a fold out bench in back. But I always drift when raining, very easy to do that...

Lol, palletized probably a couple hundred bucks, however, im going to work on this 603 idea with her. I have no familiarity with that engine, but it would be a nice upgrade for her.
Thank you for that copart link, now im doing some endless surfing. Big Grin
....

... but she can't stand how powerless the 240 is and ends up driving her 96 something volvo wagon instead.

What's up with the name change? You'll always be "drop" to me. Big Grin

603 power FTW! Keep the engine stock, so it will run well and you'll end up with a great w123.

More possibilities...

forgetfullness and increasing age. Seems the more time goes by, the more car forums im a member of, and the more avatars I have, the less I can remember what the hell my name is or code on a given forum. Im just going through switching them all to my initials.
The dropnosky avatar I stole from a friend anyway when we were 20. Big Grin

Im going back and forth, the 617 would be a slam dunk day of work "heres your car babe", but the 603 would be after a lengthy time finagling with the help of the forum "heres your awesome custom car babe".

How can you ever forget your unique name "dropnosky"! Now we can't say I'm going to "dropnosky" a transmission bellhousing! Athough, "I'm going JB3 one" doesn't sound that bad either.

Come on, she has the brick to drive while you take your time on the ultimate 603 chick w123! Cool Plus you know we all like to read your forum documentation projects. They are legendary for the balls to do such a thing! hahaha!

617 with some upgrades should be good for 140HP, I'd say do it.

Did I say 140hp? I meant 180 HP and 600tq, while still getting 45mpg
