Can anybody recommend some good benz mechanics and radiator shops on the west coast, specifically Seattle and Portland and surroundings? Thanks.

No personal experiences, but I heard good things about
ZahnTech Import Auto Repair 15215 NE 90th St in Redmond WA 98052 (425) 861-8060 and maybe Fix Um Haus 7104 N. Lombard Portland, OR 97203 (503) 286-0903, but they deal primary on VWs.

Ted at Friedel's, in Renton, is your #1 local go-to guy for older Mercedes diesels. Ted knows it *all* about W123's.

John at BenzFriends, in Burien is also good. He's a little hard to get ahold of though. John is no longer in his old south Seattle (Flora Street) shop, he's partnering with a guy in Burien. Might have to leave him several phone messages before he gets back to you.

For newer Mercedes especially gassers e.g. your 560SEL, take it to Pete's, at the south end of the Renton airfield. Pete does radiators. Access is a little tricky, you get to Pete's via the southern airport perimeter road.

European Motors, out on Aurora in north Seattle, is also said to be good, but I have no personal experience, other than meeting two genuine older German mechanics there. They seem to know what they're talking about.

Best dealership, in fact the only Puget Sound dealership I would recommend, is Barrier Mercedes, in Bellevue. That's the only place I would go for a complete engine rebuild.

The other two dealerships in the Seattle-Tacoma area, MB of Seattle (formerly known as Phil Smart Mercedes) just east of downtown, and Larson Mercedes also known as Mercedes of Fife also known as Mercedes of Tacoma, both have ...to put it mildly...a rather poor reputation, both for lousy service as well as for charging ridiculously. However, I will say, Michael at the parts counter at Larson Mercedes of Fife/of Tacoma does go the extra mile. He recently obtained for me a genuine Mann secondary fuel filter, even though the Mann is no longer in their computer. Larson recently moved into a new facility on the west side of I-5, across the freeway from their old one, so maybe their service will improve.

But Barrier gets consistently high marks for customer satisfaction in all respects, and has for many years now.

Forum member whipplem104 is in the area and no doubt can recommend further shops, perhaps even his own.

There's another MB specialist on South 112th in Tacoma, and I have seen things like Pontons and gullwings in there, but I forget the name.

And, last but not least, let us not forget Kent Bergsma (mercedessource.com), in Bellingham.

If you need MB transmission service, in the Tacoma area, PM me. There's this little hole-in-the-wall shop just north of the McChord AFB runway...

Dunno. From his videos I had inferred that he does. But I've never actually visited him.
