Title says it all. I have a w123 and a om603. What do I need to do to stick them both together. The more detailed the better. Keeping the 83's stock tranny.

You will need motor mount arms (maybe custom) and the 603's transmission. The 83 transmission will not fit, since the starter hump is on the other side.

some one did this swap on a 280ce it's on eBay The 6cylinder gas motor mounts might work but you will need the transmission auto or manual from a gas engine because of the starter thing

om616/617 starter is on the RH side
om603/606 the starter is on the LH side like all inline gas Mercedes engines my trans is the 6spd from a 2002 c230 kompressor

some one did this swap on a 280ce it's on eBay The 6cylinder gas motor mounts might work but you will need the transmission auto or manual from a gas engine because of the starter thing

om616/617 starter is on the RH side
om603/606 the starter is on the LH side like all inline gas Mercedes engines my trans is the 6spd from a 2002 c230 kompressor

Thank you Alastair, but I'm still confused on the tranny.
What would be a bolt-on type of option.

will any tranny out of a w201 or w210(except the electric controlled) just bolt up to the 603. Then in-turn bolt into the chassis and drive line?

or is the 280ce tranny the easier solution?

W123 M.110 gasser engine has starter on wrong side to the OM.60x series engines, just like the OM.617--they are interchangeable...

Looks like most post 86 gasser trans can be made to fit the OM.60x as the starter is on the correct side, however there'll be the issues of whether the trans is suitable for a diesel engine--Best stick to one from a post 86 250 or 300D/TD or 190 2.5 W201

I'm all about converting it to a 5 speed, if it bolts together. It just seems like it would be way harder. New flywheel, transmission carrier, pedal assembly, and how rig up a shifter. Maybe all this stuff is easy, but I don't know.

The only hard part is sourcing those parts. Most of them are bolt on.

You would use the pedal assembly from the 240D thats cheap and easy to find. You would need a 5 speed shifter from W123, more difficult but not impossible. The 123 and 124/190 shifter is pretty close in size it might fit. Flywheel you can source from 190d or 300e, not toooo hard to find. The transmission carrier, there are 3 or 4 slots down there and 3 or 4 diff carriers, one of them would do the trick....
