Well hello all! I am new to the world of benz diesels. I work for Caterpillar as an engine tech so I know newer stuff pretty good, but not old. I have a 80td euro that my dad bought new off the line. It was his baby he loved it till the day he died. I'm trying to make it not such a turd so I can enjoy it as much as he did.

Now to the questions!
1. Need a good place to find quality parts.

2. I turned the fuel up as shown in sticky tread. Now I can't drive the car at all. (went a mile from the house when I was pulled over for excessive smoke) Is this normal? Also I do not hear my turbo spool at all.(SEE VIDEO) Any input here would be much appreciated.

3. Pulled out engine to fix oil leaks. Looks like a lot of oil is coming from front of engine, do the vacuum and hydro pumps have gaskets on them?

4. Has anyone put a turbo from a 5.9 Cummins on there om617? How was the spool up time?

Thanks for any help I can get!

-Alex

2. turn fuel settings back to normal, do valve adjustment, check compression, change all fuel filters and all that basic stuff

the engine seems to turn pretty uneven during start like a growing sine curve

i can hear your turbo on the video

How long did the car sit around? mileage? more info...?

I had adjusted valves, checked compression and did all the basic stuff before I ever touched the pump. Was still as slow. Start ups are a lot smother now that the pump timing is right.

Now for more info on the car. When I was 12 (2004) the balancer fell off and the crank broke outside of the block, don't remember how but it did. Me and my dad welded it back on. This ran for about a year before it destroyed the stock engine. We bought a new crate engine from Germany. Things were great till his brain went (2007) did not get an oil changed for a year. He started running red lights and so on. Had to take it away from him. car sat for a year. Then I started playing with it.

Thanks for the help!
