Ok here we go...
I got myself a CAT30B Caterpillar Tubro Changer today. It looks to me to have a T3 flange on it. So it should blot up to my exhaust manifold with ease. But... It dosn't have a wastegate. From my understanding it has to have a wastegate. So how do I mount a external wastegate onto it? Please refer to my photos.

Ok here we go...
I got myself a CAT30B Caterpillar Tubro Changer today. It looks to me to have a T3 flange on it. So it should blot up to my exhaust manifold with ease. But... It dosn't have a wastegate. From my understanding it has to have a wastegate. So how do I mount a external wastegate onto it? Please refer to my photos.

Could you possibly get some sort of valve that will open (at whatever pressure you want) and vent boost through the overboost sensor port on the intake manifold into the exhaust post-turbo or something? Just a thought

Yes, 1970 was the last time I worked on a CAT how did you guess??? Lol

I was at work and was only thinking about it in terms of what I work on ( stationary natural gas Engines ) not the smaller diesel's.. My bad!

Ok there is my question. Like I been looking at different gates. Like they have different springs that you can get for them, but like they are rated for like 14 psi. So is that max 14 psi or min 14 psi..

It is dumping what is considered extra intake air into the exhaust mani. That's where its going anyway. Unless you have the screamer Wink
I wonder what is the difference if the extra boost goes into that exducer (like in the exhaust mani or in that t3 adpater thing with the hole in it)
or just out the exhaust pipe or a screamer where it skips the back half of the turbo all together.

Use the stock EGR as a wastegate. Just unhook it from the intake manifold and set it up so that when you hit 13psi a vacuum switch allies vacuum to the EGR actuator.

When you hit the desired boost level (13, 20, 78) somehow activate a vacuum switch to open the EGR, which now vents the pre-turbo exhaust to atmosphere.

Nope.

To slow the turbo, you want to vent pressure pre-turbo. The easiest way to do that is use the existing EGR valve and replumb it to vent the pre-turbo exhaust to atmostphere. The boost decreases because the turbo then slows down.

If you were to run it as a blow-off valve you would be wasting boost, and keeping the turbo working harder than it needs to constantly.

Im still trying to figure out what the advantages of the CAT turbo will be over the stock one?

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

Do you have a map for that turbo? Or other info? You could take it apart and measure the wheel inducer/exducer + number of blades would give you a very rough estimate. And finding/figuring out the turbine housing AR will give you a rough idea of how fast it will spool/whether you need a wastegate at all
