So having run a lot of HPDEs in fast MINIs and a couple of LeMons races in a 62ish Beetle, we decided to build our own car. And we picked a 300SD, because . . . well, um, yeah. Our first race is in March at PIR. We'll keep you posted and ask about 16million questions. How much trouble can two chicks get into in a diesel anyway?!? Why diesel? Because the tow vehicle is an 88 F250 IDI, and we've rebuilt the ENTIRE fuel system. Oh, and diesels don't use carburetor voodoo. Can't wait to pick your brains!

The car continues to be an adventure and challenge. We've got 12 days til our first race. Finishing up some electrical work and labeling bits. All was going smoothly until person 1 drained the radiator fluid while person 2 was wiring the ignition. Person 2 then started empty car and let it run for several minutes. Oooooops! Now the car starts but doesn't keep running. Oh the joys of building a crap can race car! Will update more after our first race.

Cool -- and please let us know how you solve the "kill switch" requirement.

vacuum pump & a manual valve or solenoid actuated valve with a switch? Or pipe vacuum from the engine's pump to save weight and have a long vac tube. Tee'd into the ignition vacuum for the cut off valve.

If you guys need some backup at PIR, I'm local! Big Grin
