So its time to rip out that OEM Air cleaner off my '84 300 SD. Would a dual filter set up coming right off my turbo be any better than just a singel filter? Or is it just a waste of time. Im planing on using pcp piping for the tubing.

Something like this?

I dont think its gonna hurt anything..
I dont know if its better than a single large filter..

Setup right, i think it would look nice though.

Cost you twice as much to change your filter(s). I think the fram 8038 is the way to go.

Aren't the K&N style filters washable? I put a fram 8038 in recently but I didn't really notice any significant change in power/performance

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

I noticed a loss of torque off the line with the Fram 8038. I finally switched back to the OEM air cleaner last week.

An air filter has absolutely nothing to do with off the line torque. And the double air filter thing there is comical

Bottom line, some people like the big paper Fram filter, some people like the K&N style filter.
If you decided to run 2 filters like that, it is not going to hurt anything..its not going to help anything.
If you wanna do it like that, then go for it.

I have always used K&N style filters on my om617's

What size of K&N filter do you use Garage? Do u plump it it with pipe? Or just mount it on the turbo?

I use a K&N STYLE filter on the 2 turbo cars in front of my house.
This pic is on a federal model, so it has all the emissions crap on it, the other Benz dosnt, but its not here for me to take a pic of right now.
Excuse the dirtyness, this isnt my car otherwise itd be shiny. haha
[Image: car.jpg]

I had a 240D that had the intake modded so i could mount a K&N filter directly on the front of the manifold. But that wasnt a turbo car.

EDIT: This car has ran on straight WVO for i dont even know how many years now, lots and lots of miles on veg and this style filter and shes still going strong.

I would reccomend a nice dry filter such as a AEM, they wont get oil everywhere and most of the time you can just tap the dirt out of them or LIGHTLY blow it out. They last longer too

http://www.aemintakes.com/search/univcone.aspx

Oh! And they filter much better than a K&N piece of shit Cool Big Grin Tongue

you want the coldest air coming into the engine as possible. These racing style filters let nothing but hot engine air from the engine compartment in. Stick with OEM and youll be fine. Besides even though they look cool there completely useless

the oil based gauze filters are crap. ive used them. ive done the research. might as well put a screen door on the turbo inlet. the stock setup flows 2x more than stock fueling will ever need. these are not gassers they are compression ignition cars. dirt===abrasive = lower compression. these are not some shitbox ricers or american pos, they are hand designed engineering marvels treat them as such.
