I wanted to gauge interest in common rail engines with a standalone option. I currently have a w123 with a om602 and a 722.6 that I am thinking of getting the Bosch motorsports ecu to run a om648 or the 4 or 5 cylinder versions in my car. The Bosch ecus are pretty expensive but I thought that the fuel mileage and tuning ability would be fantastic. I have been talking with Bosch and this seems very doable. Has anyone done this? Would there me a market for this?

From other threads on here it looked like people somehow got them running with the stock ecus. I'm guessing this is way more than $2k?

I have seen threads for swaps with newer drive authorization systems. I was talking more along the lines of older cars without as many computers. The Bosch unit is about 4000.00. It is a lot but being able to run a 4 cylinder or a v6 modern cdi with the 722.6 would be fantastic from either a fuel efficiency or power standpoint. Basically you could get a newer 4 cylinder and overdrive and get a 40-50 mpg average car with good power or put a 648 in or a 642 and make a violent car that gets 30 average if you keep your foot out of it. My 602 with overdrive gets 28-30 average combined driving and 35 on the freeway if I do not go to fast. That is a w123 wagon with 3.06 rear gears and half the time is loaded up and I live in Seattle with hills all over the place. I want another 10mpg and another 100hp with it. Or another 5mpg and another 200-300hp with it.
