Last time I used some high mileage pennzoil 10w40 in my 617, it seems to work pretty well. I usually add some seafoam a day or two before changing and it seems to run a little better each time.

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )
-1974 240D, FRESH PAINT!!!!!!

I've used 15w40 as well in the 617, and I've also tried 20w50 which runs fine (a tad bit higher oil pressure at idle on a warm engine) but winds slower on a cold start. I'll switch back to 15w40.

Your 606 in your area should be using 0w 40 or 5w 40 synthetic MB 229.3 or 229.5 spec oil.

Here is a MB approved list of 229.3 or 229.5 spec oils.

Mobil 1 5W40 Turbo Diesel Truck Synthetic has been run for 10k miles on a 603 and came back with good oil analysis results. Around 8-10k I began planning my oil change. I've been running this oil on my 603 since 160,000 and I'm around 195,000 now.

for the OM606 I would use fully synthetic 5W-40 and change every 10.000-15.000km
