Hey guys, I figured I would start a thread and officially make this a project.

Here are some pictures of the modded manifolds that Carlos made for me!

Im still saving up for those pesky gauges. I might just get cheap ricer ones for the time being cause money is real tight....

Got all my parts in the mail today. Turbo, Exhaust mani and intake. as well as a boost gauge, still waiting on that EGT one.

Theres on problem.... The wastegate on my turbo was damage during shipping. I have a k26 turbo

I took a whole bunch of photos but i will post them later tonight.

Any ideas if i can replace that wastegate? Anyone have an extra I can buy?

Looks like that waste gate should be pretty easy to replace. and internals arent too expensive either!

carlos who sold it to me said he had another one that might fit. Anyone know where I can actually get one of these wastegates online?

not sure if your gonna find an exact replacement might have to "retrofit" a different internal actuator.

RE: Purple turbo 240D
Received my gauges today

One is a pretty nice glowshift one and the other is some ricer brand JDM

Ill switch the ricer one to a nice one when i have the chance.

Still need to get a wastegate and all the oil lines

EDIT: I spent some time cleaning the parts today and one of those was the wastegate. (Sorry guys its really bumming me out) I was able to pop the screw back in place but i fear that it still wont work. How would i be able to test to see if it works?

If you have a hydraulic shop near you, you can get what you need pretty cheap. I got my line and fittings for ~40 bucks.

I would not worry to much about the waste gate. It does not look to be terminal. Put it on the car and check pressures. Then adjust as needed. The adjusting screw should still work, even though it is at a little bit of an angle.

thats what I was planning on doing. If i cant change the pressure then i know it needs to be changed.

Another question, wouldnt it be easier for me to just pull the oil lines of a 300TD and use them on my set up?

It would be alot easier then using/making custom lines

I would use the lines from 300 if you can. why re invent the wheel so to speak. You may also want the oil filter base and housing from the 300, as it will have the correct fittings for oil to the turbo. Do you have one to pull them off of? I have a parts engine that I think still has the lines and filter housing.

I totally agree with you. Why have something special made, when it already exists? I may have to do a few modifications but this would be easier for me. I do have the filter housing off a 300, so all i will need are supply and return lines.

You'd still need to fabricate a return fitting to the oil pan.

A trick I was told & will hold NO liability for:
Use apropritely sized drill bit & wrap with about 10 coils of #12 wire. Put those wires across battery for an instant. This will magnitize the bit. Then, put axle grease on bit. Slowest setting on drill. Drill into sheetmetal pan. Should hold most shavings. Return MUST be above oil level !!! Use at own risk. Damn, won't work on aluminum upper pan... Oh well....

I was going to drain all the oil and just drop the pan, should be easier then trying to prevent metal shavings in the pan.

That'll work, except for the "must be above oil level" part. Which I admit don't quite understand, I don't see why it wouldn't be fine below oil level, or if there was a problem how there wouldn't be a way around it even with it being below oil level.

RE: Purple turbo 240D
So far as I understand:
The oil in a turbocharger gets extremely aerated. Due to that. it must drain into an open area, lets it builds up in the drain tube & gets pushed out the oil seals. If you drain it below the oil level, the aerated oil has noplace to go....

I did a lot this weekend. Mostly prepping everything

Sand blasted both manifolds and painted them. I also installed the EGT probe in the exhaust, kinda messed it up but i was able to get a tight fit on there eventaully Big Grin

As far as the oil goes I have one from a 300TD and im not sure what to switch out and what each hole is for... If someone could help me out there? also theres an opening at the top of the air intake that looks like a turbo oil line, is that for the egr system? Can I plug that up?

If you are referring to the specific picture you posted of the intake manifold, with the hole in it, it is for the EGR system.

There is a kit available to cap it, not plug it. Pretty easy to make a blocking plate out of aluminum if you are handy with machining.
if it don’t blow black...take it back.

the small holes on the IP? One is for turbo feed (upper) and the other is for the oil pressure sensor (lower). The two large ones are for the oil cooler, but I'm sure you know that right? I dont recall if the 616 has a oil cooler or not

No i didnt know that, but theres no shame in that. Im an Computer technician not a mechanic, but i try my best to learn. Thanks for cleaning that up. I just watned to know where the oil line for the turbo connected.

I figured it was for the EGR, Im pretty decent with the tools i have and I have some alumind lying around. Ill just make a blocking plate for it. Should I use any sealer or use cork?

I got the rear plate for the oil filter housing off of a 300d turbo and bolted my oil line on to that on the rear of the oil filter housing near the firewall hope that helps

the 1st pic is of the turbo/ oil filter housing note the banjo bolt sticking out from the original oil line to the turbo

and my AN adapter to run 6AN fitting line to the turbo

If you unbolt the oil line to the gauge use a quality line wrench they suck if they get striped out

If you search on eBay, there is a guy selling a kit. I think he uses a standard EGR gasket. I also think he uses a sealant. But it would have to a high temp on for sure. If I could I would do the same as you and make my own plate for it.

I actually made my own today. I made one today in the morning for the air intake, will mess around with the exhaust some other time.

RE: Purple turbo 240D
So i bought the supply line and now i just need to visit a local shop to get some high quality return lines.

In the meantime, I ordered some new motor mounts because the car just shakes like crazy and makes the worst noises at idle and I believe the girding noise i have been complaining about in other threads is due to the motor mounts. If they aren't then its good to change those 30 year old mounts anyway. I also suspect the wheel bearings might be a probable cause to my grinding noise.

Im going to ask for some Euro headlights for Christmas with an HID kit :3 hope i get them!!

Also going over my list of parts and i am 100% positive i am missing that little piece from the end of the turbo connecting it to the exhaust. is there an after market i can get for pretty cheap. whats that part called anyway?

I could have put that in the same box.....

Should be a v-band, then of course the flanged pipe end, then it goes to flex pipe.

Do you just need the section that is the clamps and the piece between them? I have a garrett turbo in poor shape with that still on it. Can you email me a picture of your turbo, so i can see just what parts are missing? I don't have your email in this computer, and I am on the road for a few days.

Got some new parts in the mail today!

Unrelated to the project is two motor mounts, and of course related to my project is the oil supply line!

its in really good condition and came with the banjo bolt.

I also plan on ordering two wheel bearing sets for the front tires from mercedessource. Im pretty sure i was wrong about the squeeking and its the wheelbearings. It wouldnt hurt to change the mounts anyway!

Hey guys, Ive been neglecting my project... :/

just dont feel like doing anything with my car, or anything for that matter.

I will try to make the gauge holder to replace the ash tray this weekend. Something easy and something I can do inside

The weather here on Long Island sucks lately. Its been nothing but constant rain. Not a single nice day to do anything to the car anyway. Hopefully it breaks so I can do some maintenance.

So close to finishng this project its a shame to just stop.

Ordered two door seals for the front passenger and driver door and I also ordered the oil return line for the turbo.

Im also working out on possibly buying some euro bumpers Big Grin

RE: Purple turbo 240D
I am making good progress on my turbo conversion. Couple of things to note. If you have the York a/c compressor it will not fit with a turbo conversion, you will need the newer r-4 gm compressor and bracket that mounts under the power steering pump on the drivers side.

throttle linkages will also need to be changed, notice your linkages come up through the intake/exhaust manifold. they will not fit once the turbo is on. I'll figure what I am going to do this weekend.

New engine is in now, just need to finish little stuff. Might take the complete exhaust off a 300, it's the easy way. Don't worry I do have two down pipes, so if you still want one I do have an extra.
