I keep getting the "fever" for having an OM605 engine under the hood of my '93 190D 2.5 Turbo (obviously, this was not a factory combination). Anyway, the allure of the twin-cam OM605 in a W201 chassis is powerful. I'm wondering if anyone in the US has successfully imported one of these engines from the UK or Germany (or anywhere else for that matter) for use in the USA.

It seems that it would be possible to swap an OM605 cylinder head onto an OM602 block, but the pistons, cam timing parts, possibly rods (?) are different from the two engines. Any such swap would get into some serious $$$ trying to source individual parts.

From a practicality standpoint, importing the entire engine would seem to be the most cost-effective option.

I keep having these visions of popping my hood open to see that wide cylinder head, probably with a modded pump and big turbo. I know there are a few people on the planet who have done this swap, but I'm not aware of any in the USA.

Any advice is appreciated.

The 605 and 602 are going to have different oil/water galleys etc similar diff between 603/606.

Why not just stick a 606 in there?

WOW.... Maybe importing from UK is cheaper!@#!@#

Something about having that 5-cylinder engine under the hood seems more "correct" for the W201 cars than having the big OM606 shoehorned in. It's just a "coolness" factor that the 605 seems like the right engine for that chassis.
