G'day Fellas,

in australia the only motor that was sold over here was the non turbo diesel motor, so getting one over here is near on impossible.

Does anyone know a website where i would be able to find an OM617.952 motor? I am restoring my grandfathers car W123 300D non turbo (passed on to me when he died, he had it from new), i love the thing but i want some more grunt (hence the turbo motor).

Cheers

James

http://www.mercedesengines.net/default.asp ? Dunno if they'd actually do it. It'd cost another couple $K to ship it over of course.

thanks very much for that, very useful and may be the route that I take.

I should have clarified earlier though, after a second hand motor (i will end up stripping it down and doing it all myself). Does anyone know of a wrecker or something that sells motors online? Where do you guys source your motors?

Cheers

From the u-pick-it. Or from entire parts cars. Both being cheaper than places that ship (they typically want more than a thousand).
Here, try these people:

I had a good experience with ^ those guys (sun valley Mercedes), pleasant to deal with, he responded to my email in minutes and the whole transaction went well. Bought a door with everything in and on it for 200 bucks shipped from there to Cleveland, completely rust and dent free. A bit expensive but worth it IMO

1984 300D 4-speed ~200,000 miles
7.5mm M-pump, GT3582 turbo, F-Tune Performance intake/exhaust manifolds, A/A intercooler, 315 nozzles, Enlarged prechambers, Bosch 044 feed pump, Custom lightweight flywheel with 240mm clutch, Lowered, 17" AMG rims - 300 hp OM617 project
1985 300D 280,000 miles RIP

I recently came across a post from an outfit in Australia that was selling off several surplus 617 turbo engines that were originally configured for the hagglund. I can't find the post now but you might want to do a search

...just found it:
