Anyone have experience swapping an OM60x into a w123 chassis? My engine is tired and starting to smoke. new top end but looks like the bottom end is giving up now. Was thinking a swap may be in order if ive got to pull the engine anyways. Looked around and didnt find to much information about it on the net. any thoughts?

m102 motor mounts? Maybe really early w201 mounts. Otherwise you're making the mounts yourself.

Cant seem to find any dimensions to compare. I know theres an extra cylinder on an OM60x but same displacement as the 617...

Pretty soon, I'll probably be doing that exact swap. If I do, I'll let you know.

I'm sure the 603 is a few inches longer. Didn't stop people from doing it though.

doesnt appear to be any need to modify the firewall. That would be the kryptonite of the swap. Starter is on the opposite side but wiring isnt an issue. Neither is plumbing fuel and cooling. Seems motor mounts and the fit would be the major hurdle. Also the oil pan to cross member fit might also be a problem...

the LH starter is the best part that's what allows you to use a 5 or 6 spd manual transmissionBig Grin

guess im on the hunt for an engine/trans. Just gonna keep driving the 617 till i find what i want. Slowly gather parts until ive got what i need. Anybody know about the motor mounts? searching online i found some hints at a w124 mount setup working in the 123s....

W126 engine-mount arms from an OM.60x or inline gasser in same chassis...

Add three spacers of 1cm width, Two on one side, one on the other...

Use the box that comes with the OM.60x engine you're fitting providing its not the electronic 722.6 as from the W210...

There's pics around here somewhere....
