Yes it is safe, BUT...... DOT 5 silicone based is not compatible with DOT 3, 4, or 5.1. So you need to thoroughly clean out every seal, nooks and crannies in the system to prevent a chemical reaction that will cause solids to precipitate and lead to brake system failure.
