I've been toying with the idea of fitting coilovers to Cunning Plan, after the £999.
TBH, it's a bit of a pain to do, what with all the strengthening and fabrication required.

So I was think of cutting a couple of coils off of my lowering springs and fitting an adjustable spring seat, would this be a sensible alternative? Or, should I just say sod it, and get welding?
Would fitting coilovers be worth all the work, as far as improved handling is concerned?

Here's a few pictures to illustrate...

This is the type of adjustable spring seat I'm thinking making and fitting...

And this is how it looks under the back of an E36...

What do you think?

Has anyone here used these on W123?

Cheers Frank.

Thats really not a bad idea I think. I dont know what it would entail. But I think it would be awesome.

My plan is quite simple really, I'm going to take 2-3 coils off of my lowering springs*, then make an adjustable spring seat that bolts in place of the original spring seat.
I was thinking of making the threaded shaft about 5-6 inches long, with 1-1.5 inches extra on the top that tapers in, just to make sure the end of the threaded tube doesn't catch or bind on the spring.

(*take enough off of the spring so that it sits on the original spring seat, at about 1/4 inch of off the bump stop, to allow for maximum adjustablity)

Intresting. From the sound of it and picture you want to go really low.
Im kinda new to these chassis but from what ive heard. they dont like going that low.

TBH, this is going be purely for track use, and only do maybe 2-300 miles on the road each year.
If I was using it on the road I wouldn't be going so low, I may even have some harder, custom springs made.

I track my cobalt and go to races alot and too low hurts more than it helps. Dont get me wrong I love low im deffinitly a fan of stance, but not really in a race application.

Thanks for the advice, I was more thinking of cutting the springs so short, so that I would be able to have the full range of adjustment, more than getting it low. It's just nice to have the choice.

I've been looking for a adjustable spring perch that will fit our cars 5" dia?

I'm having trouble locating them. I've looked on coleman and google but no luck so far. Where did you find those steel ones in the first pic?

The thing is I need them for next month. I want to slam my car to go crash a vw fanboi meet with a few other guys and I want to be able to bring it back up to where I'm at now.

I found these for the rear of a volvo that uses 5" springs
http://www.kaplhenke.com/index.php?optio...&Itemid=34
But there has to be a cheaper solution than 300$
