There is a old 123 stretch 240 diesel that I have seen for a few times, but I have not had the oppurtunity to stop it an talk to the owner yet.

I remember when I had a 123 300D in the 1990's and was concerned with the high milage on my car(400,000 miles/600,000kms)......until I went to Gran Canaria....and saw all the 123's with a million plus on the odometer.

The taxi driver's there told me with the 123's they would overhaul with piston rings/pistons only at about 800,000/900,000kms....subsequent overhauls were always 500,000/600,000kms....in other words, nothing lasted as long as the original factory engine.

They also told me the 124's would do 1,200,000/1,400,000kms on the first engine....and about 1,000,000kms on subsequent engine overhauls....once again, the first overhaul tended to be rings only...

Today I did a trip in a 6 year old E-class, ,1.400.000 km on the meter, Had a small chat with the guy and it seems that they buy the MB 1 year old from Germany with some 12-150000 km Pricerange around 12-15000 euro, Better than 35-40000 for a new one in the GC.
Oilservice every 5000 km, fuelup everyday, Engine runs 20-22 hours a day. The one we did a trip with today had original engine.
