Hi could anyone please give me detailed instructions and possibly pictures on how to remove the rack limiter on a benz diesel? any help is appreciated.

You need to take the back cover off the IP and rotate the top cover (or remove) so you can get into the top of it also. Then you just loosen the the nuts (9mm, 13mm, 19mm?) and push the limiter inside of the pump and dig out with a pen magnet.

Full Load Limiter Removal Procedure
An exhaust temperature gauge (pyrometer) is necessary for reliable long-term operation of the engine after this modification. Do not exceed 1250°F in continuous operation or 1400°F in short bursts (under 5 seconds). Do not use any kind of sealer on any of the gaskets.

1: Remove the oil-filter housing. This is optional, with a long screwdriver its very possible to adjust everything with the housing in place.
2: Remove the pump back plate including shut off actuator and rack damper.
3: Disconnect the vacuum device linkage and tubes. Remove the top lid screws, turn the top lid (or remove both the ALDA and top plate for best access).
4: Remove the limiter's screws and nuts.

5: Push the limiter from the adjusting screw into the inside of the pump.
6: The hardest part is "digging" the limiter out of the bottom of the pump. A pen magnet is strongly suggested for this step. It can only exit through the thin slot on the top of the pump. You have two options- You can turn (rotate) the parts around inside the pump or you can punch out the guide pin the limiter used to slide on. The pin is no longer needed.

7: Once the limiter is out replace everything back in reverse order minus the limiter. Remember to use a new oil filter housing gasket and get the filter housing and block mating surfaces surgically clean. Be careful not to drop any gasket leftovers into an oil channel. If you get an oscillating idle this is a good place to replace the Rack Damper bolt with upgrade unit (upgraded one is gold anodized, the old silver in color) in the back plate of IP.

When you are done, you should have 5 or 6 parts left over (depending on the removal method you chose). DO NOT DISCARD THESE PARTS in case you decide to revert the operation at a later date.

You read the Bosch manual for the pump. I can't link to it because it's copyrighted and pirated, but it tells you everything you need to know.

We're also very very close to having some documentation on what-all everything does as well.

This is news to me, I realized more topend. But it was NOT worth the effort. You want power turn the valve holders, adjust the torque limiter, and raise max RPM. Your engine will explode but its shits n grins till it does.

Removal of the Rack Limiter, (a very important part), in an effort to increase useable performance is counter productive.

The reason that many have said that after they adjusted the Rack limiter they didn't see much of a increase, (so they then removed it only to find it is not much better), is because there is another adjustment that needs to be made along with the Rack Limiter (Full Load), in order for the Rack Limiter adjustment to be utilized.

Bosch set the Governor up so it only wants to move the rack as far as the stock Rack Limiter setting, (Hint, its the first thing that they want you to set), so increasing the amount the Rack can travel does nothing if the Governor doesn't push the rack farther to the new stop location. Depending you who set your governor up at the factory, (everyone does it a little different as there is a tolerance for each setting), a Rack Limiter adjustment will respond differently, some good, some not much of a change.

With the proper adjustments made, it really only takes a relatively small Rack Limiter adjustment to get a good performance increase across a wider RPM range, while allowing you to control the Max EGTs, making the adjustment a positive as the car will be drivable and you can utilize the performance.

I have generated a 11 or 13 page doc, (can't remember which), where I describe what all is going on in the governor housing, and what affect the different adjustments have on each other and the drivability of the car. I even cover "Turning the Delivery Valve Holders". (Hint, its a no no)

300D50 asked me to add a couple more things to the doc, plus, we need some pics of the RW in and out to label. I am really busy, and I often chose to relax on my off time or try to get personal things done. If you want to help speed things up, help us out and post some pictures.

I am more that willing to answer educated questions, but when people; instead of doing the work studding the manuals and on-line Bosch materials in order to be able to ask an educated question, just hold out their hands and say thanks for doing all the work, now give it to me, I get upset. "I'll take everything you are willing to give me"

Please to all that are "waiting like piranhas or hungry dogs" for information of any sort, for the sake of my faith in humanity, give something back to the forum. I'm not talking about just posting some pictures of your car, or what you are doing to it, I mean really contribute something that takes some work. Provide some information that others can really use and might not have access to. There, I'm done venting.

OM616- i was NOT kiss'n your a$$, or trying to stick my hand out. i am more than happy to read the bosch (or any other for that matter) material all day long. i just dont know where to find THE STUFF THAT IS RELEVANT AND IMPORTANT!

if you directed me to a link, instead of just info dumping i'd be more than happy.

and how can you get mad at another enthusiast for saying "i'll take all you can give me" when i'm clearly simply trying to learn about this same stuff !?!?!?!? so that in the future i can give back what i recieve?

The main point is, a "turn this in by X turns" guide won't work. It's not the nature of the beast.
It's like saying that every gun barrel, ammo choice, windage situation, distance situation, and person can use the EXACT same scope/sight settings.

Indeed, bosch doesn't give you a step-by-step for adjusting either, their own training material (can't post a link, but it's out there) just says to dial it in on the bench, till it meets the test plan, keeping in mind what each adjustment does.

My frustration has nothing to do with butt munch, but rather, from my perspective, a lack of understating and value of what it took to be able to generate the doc. I am from the school where you earn what you get, and that things of value are exchanged for things of value. I have had members offer me information from out of know where, some information I have already, and some that is new, and I really appreciated the offer, as I understand what it took to gather what they gave me, because I have done it to gather the what I currently had.

I have noticed that there seems to be a thinking that if one has information, that they are obligated to share it, or that the forum has a right to it,... redistribution of information comes to mind.

Now, I'm sure everyone will be excited by now, saying, but if you would tell me where to go, I'll do the work, and that is the point, everyone has the same search engines that I do, but it is the time in research that I spent, that is not valued in that case. Now don't get me wrong, I don’t want people to kiss my ass and build a monument or anything, it just rubs me the wrong way.

Maybe it's because there are so many big fish in a small pond, (no offence to STD), but I just don't feel like I fit here, and the friction backs that up.

I feel like I fit better on the other forum, so I will stay over there.

The doc, when combined with the MB 300DT engine service manual has way more information than what I had to start with. A person will learn a lot more from doing it themselves as apposed to having it done for them.

Honestly for 3000-4000 bucks you can get yourself a myna pump, kkd manifold, bigass turbo and an intercooler, and have a pretty damn fast Mercedes diesel. The fun part about this site is the every man mods that can be done cheap and in the driveway, while we drool over the people who put the money, time, and money into their cars like jeemu, Rudolph, ect.

I saw this somewhere else but I think its true - its a lot more fun to make a slow car go fast than to drive a fast car slow.

Here is the picture of the rear of the pump with cover off.
Ok it worked picture is there. I do better with engines then computers. If someone can add the arrows to the right screws. I can write a discription of which ones are what, but arrows with labels would be better.

Here is the picture of the rear of the pump with cover off.


Ok it worked picture is there. I do better with engines then computers. If someone can add the arrows to the right screws. I can write a discription of which ones are what, but arrows with labels would be better.

sweeet! as soon as you do CA (if you do, no pressure) i'm going to save it, make it my desktop back ground, drink 100 redbulls, stare at it for 3 days and memorize it all then drink 100 more and go to town on my IP. lol.

I have taken all of my previous post down because I feel that my sarcasm was too harsh..My bad to all that it may have offended. For the record, I have not personally requested any pump info on this site. Thanks for posting the follow up pics though as it may help any who may choose to tinker with theirs. I will not be touching my pump. Just not worth it.

Smoke, you are a better man than most. Please feel free to tweak your pump & then maybe a turbo upgrade to realize all that is possible with your stock IP. You may just get addicted to it & go for STD mods to your pump.

I'm sorry for adding fuel to the fire, I didn't mean to snap at anyone.

Like I said before, i'm stressed and was in a bad mood when a lot of this happened, not that it's an excuse for any of it.

I think the big issue is text doesn't, and never will, transmit sarcasm, inflection, or tone very well.

There's no need to stay away Smoke, I think we all realize there was a big communication gap scenario going on between all of us, and we worked it out.

I talked to my wife, see being the computer expert, and says how to add to a picture labels arrows etc. What screws are what I know, just getting them in the picture is the problem for me. Maybe the moderaters could join all this with the pump theory.
