My non MBZ ride will technically be my MBZ ride. My Volvo 245 will eventually get an OM617, but that's a long term project. For the time being I'll rock the stock red block. Has close to 300k miles on it and each cylinder leaks at <9%.

I recently sold my 88 RX-7 Turbo II. Unlike previous projects, I built this car to be well rounded. Even balance of power and handling. This car was also my first megasquirt project.

The car was fairly modded and being a Japanese car, cops were on the lookout. I tried to keep the engine bay as stock looking as possible.

Oh, and I installed HID's the right way. OEM nissan projectors fitted to the stock pop-up actuators:

My current non-daily driven project is a 68 Mustang 351c. I'm not really interested in restoring it, I'm not into making cars look good. It's been in the family for 20 years and when I acquired it, changes had to be made. First, the carb and distributor had to go:

With a few trips to the junkyard for ignition and fuel parts, an order from DIY autotune, and lots of fab time, I megasquirted the 351. Port fuel injection, wasted spark, single throttle body. The picture below was taken the night I started the car on the new setup. Since then I've fabbed an intake system for it.

Finally, my backup daily is an Infiniti M30. I've had the car since high school and it sort of just sticks around. It's worth less than $1000 and as reliable as the car is, I just can't get rid of it.

Cleveland's are sentimental to me. Is that a 2v? I've seen people rework the 5.0L/5.8L injection and manifold to use on the Cleveland. This install looks a lot cleaner. Would love to see your new intake.

It's a 2V. I used the intake manifold that was on there to begin with, an edelbrock performer. I machined injector bungs, and ports in the runners to fit th bungs into:

The throttle body adapter was fabbed for fit an Infinit Q45 throttle body and bolt it to the modified edelbrock manifold:

I'll have to update the gallery with some of the stuff I've done recently. The air filter no longer sits off the throttle body, there's a 3.5" 90 degree silicon coupler connected to a pipe that locates the filter next to the radiator at the grille. The distributor has also been completely eliminated. The oil pump is now driven by a custom shaft made from a stock distributor. The only thing you see now is a cap where the distributor used to be.

As far as the rest of the system goes

Fuel:
Bosch Motorsport "044" pump
Mercedes 450SEL fuel filter
-8 feed, stock carb line used for return
Mallory boost compensated FPR
Custom fuel rails from extrusion
2nd gen non-turbo RX-7 injectors, driven in peak-and-hold, 450cc

Ignition:
DSM coil packs
DSM power transistors
ACCEL DIY wire set for mopars

Computer:
MSII on a 3.0 board
MS2/E 2.0.1 Firmware
36-1 trigger mounted to crank
JAW wideband O2 controller

The stock 35 amp alternator was insufficient for all of the new electrical stuff. It just so happens that the 70amp second gen RX-7 alternators have the same mounts as old ford alternators, so it was a bolt in affair for an internally regulated 70amp alternator that cost all of 12.99 in the junkyard.

Would love to see a pic of that. I take it you just chopped it at the waist and kept the hold down clamp the same. i

On California 91 octane dish water it does not ping with 31 degrees in at the torque peak, 32 degrees at 5600 rpm to the rev limiter, 6250 rpm. Running 12.8 AFR's from the torque peak on until I get it on the dyno to fine tune it. I don't see low-mid 13 AFRs being a problem. Here's my current timing map until I get it on the dyno:

I'll take a picture of the current setup tomorrow and post it up. For the oil pump drive the distributor body was cut at the base where it clamps to the block. The body was machined to fit a sealed ball bearing assembly to support the shaft and then a cap machined to fit the top of the body to retain the bearing. It's a trick assembly built by my father, he's a pretty talented machinist. I just do the sheet metal fab and welding. I'm not good at explaining things, when I post some pictures you'll get a better idea.

This is about an Inch pushed in: [Image: IMG_2970.jpg]
The only reason it's my project is because I crashed it when I was Twenty One. What happened was, I was going to my house on a summer day for the guys to do the dry wall on my newly built addition. When I was going some woman with her husband IN the back seat. Her husband exclaimed when I was doing the turn "Go Go Go!", and she listened and I tried to steer away and she nailed me. So, I actually landed it good, but I fucked up my knee pretty bad. And if you think I was a rich little 21 year old kid you're wrong. I bought a foreclosure home and got the money to build over the first floor to make the Addition. Then now I've been living there for exactly 8 years. I rent out the first floor and live on the top. But anyways, here's my 1978 Monte Carlo which is a "Project Car":

Diesel,

First off, Veeeerry nice Porche! drool, drool

Secondly, build some shelves and some benches man! You will be so much happier. It is worth the time you would take away from your project, really in one evening you could have a workbench where your compressor is, and your compressor could sit underneath. I just went into new housing developments and went through the construction dumpsters, they're throwing it out anyways. Lots of 2x4's and 3/4" decking that are perfect for bench building. The 3/8" OSB wall sheeting cut-offs make great shelf boards on top of 2x4 'boxes', with 2x4 legs.

Let me know if you need some quick sketches of quick-build, solid 2x4 shop furniture.
Oh yeah, here is one of my non-mbz rides.

1970 SS Chevelle #'s matching, all original, unrestored (but really needs one!)

Sitting in the pole-shed next to 'Jurgen'

In the Quanset getting ready for the 'resurection run' It had been in storage for the last ten years while we grew our little family, and now finally it is back in my possesion ON MY property!! Big Grin

Inside

Engine

The 'Resurection Run' I hadn't driven it for about nine years when this photo was taken two Easters ago. That's my youngest hangin out the window. She likes to 'Go faaaaaster Daddy!!!' Big Grin

Now for s**ts and giggles, I'll fill up the wee jerry-can (now in the trunk - original fuel tank pooched) and go for a blast down the back road. That one gallon can is good enough for two or three really good burnouts CoolBig Grin , and up and down the back road at high speed 'bout 4 miles total

Other rides include:

1972 Chev 1/2ton p/u
1972 Chev K5 Blazer

Don't have any pics of the benz's yet but here's my truck... If I could only get half the power of my truck into the 300D I think I would be happy (400/2 = 200RWHP Big Grin) but it would probably be short lived and I would want MORE MORE MORE! Big Grin

Well we go it as a freebie because this girls son had rolled it. One of the cam gears was broke, so we took the car and fixed the gear in about two minutes and had it running champion. While fixing the cam gear by buddy decided to step on the plastic radiator tank and cracked it. we got another radiator from another car and rigged it in there. (keep in mind we didn't give a flying F*&k about this car). The rigging came loose and we ran the radiator over after landing a jump lol. long story short, we decided to run it air cooled. It didn't like that too much and would smoke and snap, crackle, pop, like rice crispys. It resulted in melting the plug wires down into the head. Baahahahaha we laughed so hard and had so much fun! dug out the wires and replaced with new ones. and now it only has spark to 2 cylinders. So the ECU is only firing one side of the coil. Other than that she is good to go... still cranks and still has plenty of compression.

The hood? we bent up the edges to make wings! then we just ran it without the hood.

we also sawzaled off the windshield frame

There is a keyway on the crankshaft for the timing belt pulley. It uses a woodruff type key to hold the pulley in the correct orientation. Evidently on the early year engines, mazda had not provided enough of a seating surface for this woodruff key in the actual crankshaft, and the woodruff key was longer than the slot, so it could move out of position and damage the keyway, messing up the timing of the vehicle.
Fortunately, they are non interference, but unfortunately, there is almost no effective way to repair that except actually removing the crank and replacing it with a newer one. From what I understand, you can't even get the old type crank at all.
I have not had this specific problem, but apparently there have been a lot of people who have had extremely unusual running problems which are eventually attributed to the timing actually changing as the woodruff key moves around in the keyway.

Yea it has a solid front axle beam with leafs all the way around

I'm ok with the way the back sits

The front sits up nose happy! I'm thinking swamping the axle on top of the springs would be to extreme! It also has a weird wedge shapes spacer that looks important for the camber?

I was thinking of removing a leaf or two out of the front???

unless there is a drop spindle available of some sort?
