I'm watching this modern marvels tv show about acids. They showed a scientist dissolving the zinc center of a penny away with hcl leaving only copper.
Do you think that I could do that large scale and scrap the copper? I think pre 1982 pennies are 100% copper too.
I know all of this is a felony. Just wondering. And I wonder how that guy could do it on tv.
How concentrated does the hcl have to be, how many pennies can it dissolve, and where can I get it?

Lol I just watched the exact same episode. The cost of pennies and acid would have you losing money, better off just collecting the pennies.

1984 300D 4-speed ~200,000 miles
7.5mm M-pump, GT3582 turbo, F-Tune Performance intake/exhaust manifolds, A/A intercooler, 315 nozzles, Enlarged prechambers, Bosch 044 feed pump, Custom lightweight flywheel with 240mm clutch, Lowered, 17" AMG rims - 300 hp OM617 project
1985 300D 280,000 miles RIP
2001 F350 7.3 DP tuner, 4"exhaust, S&B intake

Yeah old ones, then get a crucible or something and have a hot ass campfire. Real caveman style. Copper is super high now for scrap. There was like $40 of wires in the dashboard of that 300d even covered in insulation they paid that.

That recycling center would be confused when you showed up with a big blob of copper.

Naysayers say that the old pennies are only 95% copper and that the recycling people will know you melted them. I would just tell them it was art, like a statue or something. Wink
