what is everyone doing for wvo these days? seems like the renderers have most places on lockdown now, and the huge wvo fad has largely died out. i can't find any good forums for wvo anymore - they're all wastelands with hardly any posting.

went out midnight oil hunting tonight. found 3 jugs of oil by a dumpster that had to have been sitting a long time as most of the shit had settled. got 10 gals clean oil without having to pump! scoped out about 15 locations that looked pumpable (and didnt have any names posted on the dumpsters). gotta start stocking up before diesel hits $5-6/gal and everyone suddenly decides to start running WVO again!

that's a cool map. there's a place selling b100 up the street from me, i'll stop by and see what the deal is.

i was reading up on making b100 last night but i'm not sure if i can set all that up. if it makes you feel any better, i've got my filtration and dewatering down perfectly and the weather here is consistently warm - i'll drive my gasser if it is cold.

i scouted out places last night where there are dumpsters but not marked by a renderer (or anyone else for that matter). asian restaurants are indeed the best in my own experience, but i'm flying under the radar for now so i will just be pumping my own.

FI - what's your position on the following scenario:
two-tank system, B100 for startup/purge, perfectly filtered/dewatered wvo in secondary.

my mom would flip out if i suggested adding more barrels and chemicals and systems into the garage, but i could probably manage to set something up to do very small B100 batches (i.e. 3-5gal) to run in my startup tank.

As far as Forced is concerned, running a diesel MB on VO is like nailing Christ to the cross. The fact that you properly filtered and dewatered just means you polished up those stakes before you started hammering them through. Lets see how far off I am.

I have the same stance on it that I have with my one friend that is gay - if that's what you want to do, great have fun I don't have any issue with it. But its not for me. And I don't need to try it to know for sure.
But that's just me. I helped my dad collect and filter it for his truck its not all that bad if you know what you're doing.

cool news, i talked to amber racing services in long beach - they have methanol for $27.60 per 5 gal pail. that roughly should equate to 1.25ish per gallon biodiesel if i decide to make some.

i am running waste transmission fluid. i do filter it through 5 microns twice before putting in my vehicle. i also mix 1/4 of a tank diesel to 3/4 tank waste trans fluid. then add cetane booster. never had any problems the last year putting through the vehicle. just normal filter changes, valve adjustments, and oil changes. i get my waste trans fluid from a shop i used to work at for free. i couldent afford almost $5 a gallon of diesel where im at but love driving for free. Smile

My oil comes from a tortilla chip factory for about $.65 a gallon, my friend and his brother-in-law buy it and I just get it from them when my IBC tote gets low. My friend's brother-in-law brother in law is building a fairly large biodiesel processor so he can feed his fleet of trucks (he owns a construction company) and I think they have about 3500 gallons or so stockpiled at his yard and it is constanly being filtered

-1982 300D Turbo, 280k miles, ALDA apparently maxxed, fram 8038, 12 lbs boost, non-egr manifolds, W/M injection, 4 brake light mod, Gen II w126 front rotors/calipers, 4-speed swap
In the works: A/W IC, adjust pump, turbo rebuild (w/60 trim comp wheel)
-1980 300SD, 110k, project car. Goal is to get it lookin' like it did on the showroom floor (body and interior wise, not necessarily under the hood )

I’ve been getting mine for free from a private organization that my family is part of. They don’t really care if I take it or not. Just sometimes I end up with too much.

I really need to get my Elsbett system in so we can have two cars running wvo.

if it don’t blow black...take it back.

Yeah its pretty awesome, they might end up just giving me some whenever I need it if I help build the processor. My friend says they have 3 or 4 tanks (cant remember exactly what size, somewhere between 250 and 500 gallons each) and a lot of other miscellaneous stuff for the project. They also plan on building a large still to distill the byproducts to recapture the methanol since about 65% or so (I think that's right, may be wrong) ends up not being used in the process

You can never have enough vegetable oil, if nothing else its an excuse to be the guy with the cool mercedes who drives everybody around because he can afford to not care about fuel prices (just dont tell people it runs on wvo and they'll think you have more money than you actually do lol)

My friend used to do this but the oil he got was all brown and nasty, even after filtering with a 5 micron sonck filter, the oil we have now is golden colored, about twice as dark as new clear oil you can buy at the store.

Oh and since my conversion is part of a "research project" I got a grant from the CSU system that pays $500 for parts and $500 for labor, (although I still haven't seen any of the money and it was supposed to be here in late june/early july) and once I actually write a technical paper about it (after chassis dyno testing of course to get info on power, emissions, and fuel consumptions on wvo vs. diesel) my adviser plans on submitting it to a whole bunch of automotive groups so we might be able to go to conferences in places like Australia and Tennessee and I foget where else he mentioned lol. I would like to have another experiment where two identical engines are ran under various conditions, on on veg and one on diesel, and then dismantle them to determine if there are differences in the amount of wear, and if so try to find a way/s to prevent it

Right now upgrading the refinery as the Phoenix Project creeps along. I can turn WVO into some really nice fuel: 2-3 water baths, centrifuge, and final filtering. My former single tank system with Elsbett injectors, 30 plate HE, C - Plugs worked really nice. New system will incorporate some fancy upgrades in the R&D phase right now.

My mainstay BBQ place now wants $1.00 a gallon for the grease, so I won't be going there anymore. The Asian & Mexican joints have nice stuff, but low output, e.g., maybe 5 gallons a week per place. It's free but takes about 30 minutes a week to collect. I stored up about 150 gallons in 55 gallon drums. I need to upgrade this.

Any ideas out there to score 500-600 gallons at a time? Storage ideas? Tank ideas? It looks like the supply side of things have turned the wrong direction. Any thoughts?

Any ideas out there to score 500-600 gallons at a time? Storage ideas? Tank ideas? It looks like the supply side of things have turned the wrong direction. Any thoughts?

(12-09-2011, 08:49 PM)sassparilla_kid My oil comes from a tortilla chip factory for about $.65 a gallon, my friend and his brother-in-law buy it and I just get it from them when my IBC tote gets low. My friend's brother-in-law brother in law is building a fairly large biodiesel processor so he can feed his fleet of trucks (he owns a construction company) and I think they have about 3500 gallons or so stockpiled at his yard and it is constanly being filtered

Fuck yeah, you got that shit hooked up SWEET!

(12-10-2011, 09:41 PM)w123love I’ve been getting mine for free from a private organization that my family is part of. They don’t really care if I take it or not. Just sometimes I end up with too much.

I really need to get my Elsbett system in so we can have two cars running wvo.

You can never have enough vegetable oil, if nothing else its an excuse to be the guy with the cool mercedes who drives everybody around because he can afford to not care about fuel prices (just dont tell people it runs on wvo and they'll think you have more money than you actually do lol)

(12-10-2011, 09:44 PM)garage We get all our oil free also, its just not by completly legal means all the time.
Although we do have a few chinese restaurants that save it all for us.

We have a car here that has been running on wvo for at least 4years without a problem yet.

No idea how to attain that much at a time, but there are such things as 250 gallon totes. Plastic with an aluminum tube frame, they are also stackable. I’d imagine it would be a great way to settle oil if you had the capacity and vertical space.

Hey,

Just looked them up on Craigslist. The guys says they are 275 gallons so they must be the same deal. He wants $65 for each tote. Great idea ! I think I will grab 2 next week and stack them. That should be my 500 gallons and you can "daisey-chain" them together. Now, just need to find a large score at one time. I could put a tote on a trailer.

Totes are available in two sizes, 275 and 225 gallons. I would be little hesistant to stack a full tote on top though. As for sourcing that much at a time I would look into seeing if there are any sort of chip factories or businesses that would be using large quantities of oil on a regular basis. I found a company that roasts nuts in oil that I plan on going and talking to within the next month or so to see if we can get a little more

Im not sure about where everybody else is at, but in California to "legally" collect oil you need about $5500 in licensing, so whenever we transport oil we use an enclosed trailer so people can't see what we're doing

My veg oil trailer has a 50 gallon square tank on it. It’s a standard harbor freight single axle build it yourself trailer.

I put two deep cycle marine batteries on the front, and mounted a 12 volt dc marine transfer pump on the side of the tank. Plus the appropriate plumbing its a self contained system.

I’m not a fan of putting and sticky veg oil in my Mercedes. Only place that nastyiness goes is in the tank and out the tailpipe.

if it don’t blow black...take it back.

Yeah definetly aint gonna fit 500gallons in the trunk. But ive never got 500gallons at once.
The most we have stockpiled at once is 2 55gallon drums.

I definetly wouldnt tow a trailer filled with used/stolen/uninsured/unlisenced veggie oil behind the Benz, or any car for that matter. I dont wanna get caught with it.. So into the trunk it goes! I dont mind the stickyness if im paying nothin to very little for fuel. Nothing a little degreser cant fix.

I get oil from two resturants I have an agreement with. Other then that I usually can find some on craigslist, or the wvo forums when someone is getting out of wvo. I use it for my Dodge truck. My mercedes is just straight diesel.

Most I got at once was 4 totes, 275 gallon each. On a flatbed trailer.
