This is all regarding an OM605 btw.

Would it be reliable if it had like say 400bhp?... could it be used every day?

Also, what fuel consumption can i expect?

Look up the user "jeemu", he does pretty much exactly as you describe but he is around 550hp. Reliable is probably yetto be determined...but at 400hp from what have read, you should be fine!
