Shall we switch if I can migrate all the data successfully? Take a look at phpbb3 and tell me what you think.

Eh, I like this. And you said so yourself, bb3 is a nightmare to work with.

I can be wrong, don't take everything I say as verbatim, please fact-check first.

On the flipside phpbb has way more support and a bazillion plugins.

What about dead-links on google/other forums? Unless you can get the url rewrite engine working properly to do a seamless transition that is.

As a typical member of this forum, I have been pretty happy with the tech.
What are the motivations for switching?

I moderate another forum using phpbb3 and once I figured out how to set it up, I was able to nearly eliminate spam.

Whatever needs to be done. I am also now in a position to be able to donate some funds to assist the cause.

Winmutt. Check www.bit-tech.net which runs on Vbulletin instead.
Keep in mind that that site started as 5 guys in one's basement in 2000 with as little as 200 users for a month. It grew and grew, and suddenly was acquired by Dennis Publishing. But they have always been running Vbulletin.
I don't know how far fetched it is for you to use that instead. As far as i can see the updating of product is easier. And the complete suite is 285 per full edition revision. So far it's at 4.x

For what it's worth I'll donate as I can.

I wouldn't mind getting an STD..Tongue
