I was holding it with one or the other hands, I want to get one of those camera mounts for a car, they look really interesting.

Im not thinking ford, although I do love ford trucks, the engine won't go into a ranger. You will have to wait and see if I can check into true feasibility first.

I've got a 4x4 D50 shell that needs a back end frame, maybe that IRS setup from the 240 could slide in... is there a 3.909 ratio gear set for a Benz pumpkin?
Just checked and the width would work quite nicely, the Benz is only 4 inches wider on the body...

I'll stop planting ideas in your head...Big Grin

I finally got the time to finish the manifold...here are a few pics, not as pretty as I would like, but it should function just fine.

It will require using a SHCS in lieu of a stud for the back bolt unless you opt for a longer stud.

1982 300SD: 304,xxx Super M-pump with 7.5mm elements, 265 Nozzles, GT35 water cooled turbo, M90 Supercharger, A/W Intercooler, Serpentine drive belt, 3" SS exhaust with Magnaflow muffler, 240 breather, AEM dry Filter, Manual Boost Control, EGT / Boost / EMP gauges....Moved on to other projects

1995 F-350 7.3L PSD: 230,xxx 6.0 IC, DIY Stage 1 Injectors, 17* hpop, Tony Wildman Chip, John Wood Trans, 6.4L TC, 3" down pipe, 4" straight exhaust, 310 HP on wheel dyno - 8500# dually: 0-60 in 6.98

Suzuki Samurai: VW 1.9L TD, Trackick doubler transfer case (made by me) 5.8:1 transfer case gears, YJ springs front and rear with rear missing links, wheel base extended 14", diffs welded, some day a VNT.

Dropnosky, I think I can add more mass near the center of your flywheel if you're willing to use the longer automatic flywheel bolts. Conceivably I could add a 98mm diameter by 18mm puck in the center, with a 40mm hole in it to pass the input shaft (smaller possibly, I forget the diameter of a Benz shaft).
It'd add ~ 2lb extra. If I tapered it to fit and use more dead space, I'd be able to eek an extra pound out.

The other idea is to bolt a collar down using the pressure plate mounting bolts, that is a nice slip-fit inside your flywheel's lip and "cradles" the pressure plate, and holds it in.

Both ways you wouldn't need to drill, dowel, or otherwise modify the flywheel, so that's a big plus.

Interesting, I have a spare flywheel somewhere. I figure ill bring it out, play with options and get it all set up before final installation in eventually my 300D. At one point, I should bring it by and talk to you about what can be done. This won't be for a bit though, the MB 5-speed from this 240 will go into the 300 next spring, that way I have a working car all winter.

Usually I manage to disable all the cars I own all at the same time putting me on a bicycle, im trying to be disciplined for once Big Grin If not, ill have to pedal out there in the 2 hours it takes

The swap vehicle has been found! and viola! Big Grin

The Chevy astro shares an almost identical drivetrain to the S10. Early models were actually available with a manual transmission, and it has a very interesting engine access setup.
Kind of half large van with an interior hatch, and half small van from the hood, providing excellent room. These vans are extremely popular for V8 conversions, if a chevy 350 can fit in there, a 616 will fit in there!
The entire front subframe with engine mounted can be detached from the vehicle and rolled out on the front tires. Basically, I can raise the van body off the subframe, roll it away, and enjoy lots of room to work for adapting the engine.

Additionally, the fully loaded generation 2 vans are only 600lbs heavier than a 123 chassis mercedes. This vehicle is a generation 1 cargo version, which may be pretty close to the 2 ton mark, I will weigh it before I start pulling out the tired V6.

I used to take my parent's 1985 Astro Conversion Van to college with me. Everybody loved to pile into that thing. Great times!

You need to get a quick make over like something like this.... In about 1:05 into the video....
The rest of the video is just funny.....

What are your plans with it long term?

Im gonna clean it up and use it for work. I was picking up a lot of freight/parts before and doing some courier stuff, and this would be useful for cargo or jobs. Vans are ultimately useful, I find myself always borrowing my sisters caravan for all kinds of jobs. Basically, Im gonna try and build myself a smaller size delivery van, something like a diesel ford transit in Europe.

Pedo-van! Big Grin There is a window on the other side, so not 100% pedo van. maybe 70%

Arguments for a van vs a truck. Ive owned trucks off an on again for years, problem with trucks for me is that, you have small passenger space in the size truck I want, and when you arent carrying cargo, you basically have a two seater.

A van in the same size can carry more cargo, and is also configurable, meaning I can drop in a center seat and have a 4 or 7 passenger vehicle. It also has the benefit of being a space that can be locked and covered while still accessible from the driver seat. A necessity if the vehicle ever enters NYC

I actually was looking for an older passenger version, like deliveryvalves 85 (sans lowrider upgrade! Big Grin), since they have a clutch pivot OEM, this one is later and I have to make something adapt. Could not pass on the price though, this thing was 300 bucks. Ill start a new thread on this, I got some other cool stuff today for the swap.

lol, Im glad I didn't go for the "ice cream" truck version of this van that was posted on craigslist last month! Would have never heard the end of that! Big Grin Was not cheap though.

Heres a pic of the inside, this was I believe a painters van. I will have to do a lot of work in order to allow any friskiness, its just bare bones wood and steel right now. It comes with 7 mounted spare rims, and a couple batteries.

How did you know I was going to post "at least you didn't get an icecream truck.." once I woke up? :p

Hmm, you might need more cahones than a 616 for that if you start making it the mobile mansion...

I definetly cant wait to how the turbo 616 holds up to it!Big GrinBig Grin

I totally understand the need for having a covered cargo area/passenger area, and this seems like a darn good canidate.
