And he wants the timing chain replaced. Anything I should know about replacing the chain?

07-20-2010, 11:39 PM #1I know somebody who wants me to replace a 617 engine. Do I pull out the transmission with the engine or leave it in the car? Which way is easier?

It came out and went in pretty easy for me It took me two try's to get it lined up! The first time I had a wire get caught in there that I didn't see after that it was pretty simple!

It came out and went in pretty easy for me It took me two try's to get it lined up! The first time I had a wire get caught in there that I didn't see after that it was pretty simple!

How much is a 1984 300TD engine with 279k miles on it worth?
And is that engine a direct swap into a 1985 300SD? What do I do with the SLS pump on the TD engine?

07-22-2010, 09:03 AM #6I would think about $500 if it runs good or at least that's as much as I would pay for one I bough my last engine in a trashed car for $400 and it was a recent rebuild

Unbolt it and make a 1/4" or 3/8" cover plate to stop up the hole in the head.

08-05-2010, 12:55 PM #8I wimped out and only pulled the engine out for the guy. He's having somebody else install it in his car. I ended up pulling the transmission out with the engine. It was my first time pulling a RWD engine/tranny, wasn't too hard. It was a little tricky keeping the engine away from both the firewall and the A/C condenser. And I had some trouble getting the flex disc to separate from the flange on the driveshaft. I had to knock the disc loose with a chisel.
Anybody need any 300TD parts?
