During my rebuild I bought two extra shortblocks and have a few decent internal parts left over.  If you rebuild what you got and need some of those unobtanium hard parts, hit me up, you can have them.

Thank bud! That's awesome I appreciate that very much!!! I didn't find time to pull it this weekend and next weekend is racing so the week after I will get to it

Where are you at with the swap man?

Thats the look I want for my SD. Rough and rugged looking with aggressive tires on black wheels.

I also plan to do an AX-15 swap, but mine would be in a w126. Any idea how the trans fits in your w123 tunnel?

So Like I said, here's the story lol

Got a few hours one Friday to pull the engine and trans

Lets weigh this pile I said, no one knows the weight they said

HOLY SHIT

Anyone want a 2600 RPM stall 722.3x Converter?
[Image: IMG_20151009_182556211_HDR-600x1067.jpg]
[Image: IMG_20151009_182614257_HDR-600x1067.jpg]

Mother of God this thing is heavy. The 456 Cubic inch Chevy in our race truck only weighs 375 complete
[Image: IMG_20151009_184156003_HDR-600x1067.jpg]
[Image: IMG_20151009_184208934_HDR-600x1067.jpg]

Poor Rod bearing. It lost oil once, No one to blame but myself...
[Image: IMG_20151021_155012609_HDR-600x1067.jpg]

Fancy 3 square
[Image: IMG_20151027_120819811_HDR-600x1067.jpg]

Hmmmm Whys it rusty in there?

Just tearing it down now because I want to know what kind of shape everything's in since I put it through hell and the big ass reamed Pre-chambers.

Here is the cracked head cyl 2, 3, 4, ( I dont think the Pre-Chambers had anything to do with this)

And now the pistons which look to be in great shape considering the Pre-chambers. Don't think that ever hurt anything. Only thing the pistons show is damage from water entering the chamber from the cracked head. This almost seems like a common occurrence. Not sure if because this is a 617.951 or not. Maybe the 952's are better. This is only after wiping them with a rag

Number 5 I did not wipe just to show what it looked like when I pulled the head off
[Image: IMG_20151124_164029836_HDR-800x600.jpg]

So at the end of all this, all Im really left with is maybe some good pistons, some good rods, and a good block.

Guess it would be better to just start with another good engine, rebuild that so its known fresh and not guessing its good just because it runs.

Honestly I'm not interested in a OM60x. I like the 617 too much

Lucky dog! Your thread is looking good! I'll use this head to practice porting on now and Delivery Valve said he has some extra parts I need to look into, make a few phone calls!

I'll send you a PM whenever it shows up and we can discuss it then. Do you have any ideas what might have caused the cracks? How high were your egts/emp?

I overheated it a few times under boost which I think had to have done it. Talking about it on the flame front thread

honestly its kinda hard to mess with these benz's in the states. parts are not exactly plentiful.
85 300d om603, 717, he 341, sch40 stainless manifold with prioritized 50mm external W/G (2"open dump), intercooled, intake manifold, full 3.5 stainless exhaust.
need to figure out a different trans cause its already pissed with only 5.5mm elements... then diff and suspension. but for now its daily as described above.

let me put it this way, hes at the point where it takes real $$$$$ for a slight return to really go nuts with his car. plus he has a durmax which for the same amount of dollars spent will produce double maybe even triple the hp and the drive train still wont care minus tire rods.. so dont try to make him feel bad or anything about it.
