This 1978 Mercedes Benz 280E factory rally car was just sold at auction on Saturday! We missed it, but the details are so good that we decided to share it anyway. The car was apparently a factory test vehicle for early ABS brakes, and is one of the more interesting W123’s we have come across. It actually wouldn’t be very difficult to make a clone for regular street use. Find the details here at Seidel and Friedrich Auctions in Ladenburg, Germany where the car apparently sold for 30,000 Euro. Special thanks to BaT reader Ron B. for this find!

Quote:Rally equipment with rollover cage, ABS, servo steering, car body was strengthened by Daimler Benz( floor assembly, frame, axle parts, doppeltes tin), was made higher for rallies, strengthened feathers, damper, changed exhaust, changed hand brake, aluminum rollover cage, modified electricity, tank, fuel pumps, engine control with enhanced performance, window panes are made of Makrolon, underride guard aluminum, strengthened powertrain, strengthened tyre (Pirelli 165VR15), strengthened steering components, the sand sheet metals and Tripmaster are missing,I wonder what they did to the hand brake? Streangthened feathers? Servo steering?

I don't see any "rally style" hand brake.
